50.000 Conflicts in Brazil: the Peasant Organization Increases
The year 2024 marked a new high score in the amount of conflicts on the countryside in Brasil since the last 45 years. As the Newspaper A Nova Democracia reported, “in a new report of the Pastoral Commission of Land (CPT) is revealing that in 2024, Brasil has registered that 2,185 conflicts on the countryside took place, the second large number of the historic records since 1985. In total it is practically identic with last year, consolidating the most violent phase in the last two decades.”
The amount of conflicts in the countryside of Brazil, which scores 50,161 in the last 45 years, proves that this is the main contradiction in Brazil and it cannot be changed through the old State.
It does not matter who is ruling the State, the State’s violence is also increasing. In 2024, a year under the government of Luiz Inácio, of the so-called “Workers Party” (PT), the conflicts for land reached a peak, summing 1,768 in total.
These attacks against the poor peasants by the big landlords and their lackeys express themselves in displacements, illegal appropriation of the land, encirclement, persecution and violation of rights. What also has changed is, that the presence of paramilitary groups as for example “Invasão Zero” and the use of the law to repress peasants has increased during 2025. There has been a decrease of displacement threats and shooting due to the increasing of the organization of the peasants. This shows that the repression remains, but changes the way it is done.
The following picture shows the statistics of the Conflicts on the countryside in Brasil.
First to last line in this order: Conflicts, Murder, Involved Persons and Hectares.

The report also states that the attacks against the nature have increased, despite the word of Luiz Inácio and his government to fight for the preservation of the Amazon forest, and this means to stop the destruction of it, the statistics show that it grew by 39%, and the burning of the forest increased by 113% compared to last year. This shows that the the presidents lies when stating that “the number of deforestation of the Amazon forest is decreasing since the second year of government”.
Meanwhile the government is financing more and more the latifundium with their Plans of SAFRA 2023/2024 and 2024/2025. The legislative of the ruling classes is creating laws like the “Marco Temporal” and “Devastação”, to give the attacks the poor peasants and indigenous people a “legal sustain” and is nourishing the paramilitary movements like “Invasão Zero”.
The report states that 88 actions of “Land recuperation” have been made by indigenous, Quilombola and riverside peasant showing that the peasant resistance is increasing. We have previously reported on the resistance of the peasants, the latest the Valdiro Chagas Revolutionary Area who faced the combined action with the Military Police and the paramilitary group “Invasão Zero”. This was possible due to the great organization that the peasants, led by the League of the Poor Peasants (LCP), achieving to repeal the attack.
