Austria: Georges Abdallah is free! Palestine will be free too! – Rally in Vienna

On Friday, Georges Ibrahim Abdallah was released from a French prison after 41 years incarceration. In support of the long-standing solidarity campaign with Europe’s longest-serving political prisoner, a loud, militant, and celebratory rally of the Palestine movement took place in Vienna. Abdallah’s release is a significant success for the solidarity movement!

Numerous Palestinian and red flags, along with slogans like “Freedom for Palestine!” and “Intifada until victory!”, reinforced the rally’s central message: “Georges Ibrahim Abdallah is free – Palestine will be free!” After 41 years of imprisonment and repeated attempts to prevent his release last year by the rulers of France, the USA, and Israel, it is no coincidence that this release is taking place now! It is a hard-fought victory for the Palestine solidarity movement. Organized by the Vienna Palestine Committee, speeches by the International League of People’s Struggle (ILPS), the Arab Palestine Club (APC), and the Political Prisoners’ Freedom Initiative were met with applause and loud chants.

In the speech by the Vienna Palestine Committee, it was emphasized that Georges Ibrahim Abdallah’s only “crime” was the fight for the freedom of Palestine and for the Lebanese resistance, against Israeli oppression and the domination of imperialism in the Middle East. It was emphasized how heroically he continued this fight even in prison and continues to do so now. Thus, after his arrival in Lebanon, he wasted no time in calling for a resistance struggle: for resistance against Israeli aggression against Lebanon and for the unity of the various religious groups and political factions against the threat of Zionism and imperialism. For the greatest possible support for the Palestinians against the genocide being perpetrated against them. And for the fight for the national liberation of the oppressed peoples – “Glory and honor to the resistance!”

Georges Ibrahim Abdallah is free! And this, according to the speakers, will be a further incentive for the international solidarity movement to continue fighting until Palestine is free too!
