CHILE: USA Initiates a New Military Intervention in Latin America
Hereby we share an unofficial translation of a note published on the Facebook Webpage by Newspaper El Pueblo of Chile.
On the 14th of August Yankee imperialism sent Navy and Air Force troops to the south of the Caribbean Sea, under the empty excuse of the “war on drugs”.
The real objective is not the drug trafficking, but the military and political encirclement of Venezuela and Colombia, as in addition to new sanctions and threats. The White House announced the deployment of war ships and planes, increased the reward on Nicolas Maduro to 50 million dollars and ordered the FBI to expand the lists on “terrorism” which criminalize the people’s movements.
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, declared that she will collaborate “without submission nor invasion”, but in fact she already has sent prisoners to the USA and has shown the same historical capitulation towards imperialism that Latin American governments had.
The so called “War on Drugs” is an old farce: USA is the biggest consumer of drugs in the world, meanwhile its finance system is washing thousands of millions of dollars through drug-trafficking. The real objective is the repression of the people, to control strategic resources and to reinforce Yankee military bases, like in Panama (1989) and the Plan Colombia (2000).
Documentaries and reports of the NYT confirm that Trump has already pressured the Southern Command in order to authorize clandestine missions of the Navy Seals and the Green Berets in Venezuela, Colombia and Bolivia. Today, the script repeats with a new formula and the same result: apply the Monroe doctrine (“America for the Americans”) against the growing influence of China or Russia in the region.
The Southern Command extends operations and treaties with submissive governments, meanwhile they reinforce the blockade and the threats against Venezuela, a country with big reserves of oil, gold and coltan. Regarding this the president Nicolas Maduro announced the mobilization of 4,5 million of people’s militias: “Arms and missiles for the peasant and worker force, in order to defend the fatherland, sovereignty and peace in Venezuela”.
The reality is clear: the “War on Drugs” is just a costume. The real force is the imperialist control over Latin America.
