MEXICO: Urgent Note: The Bourgeois Court Sentences Comrade Arnulfo García Santos
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement published by Sol Rojo Mexico.
TOTAL REJECTION of the unjust 35 years of imprisonment of our displaced Triqui comrade ARNULFO GARCÍA SANTOS, sentenced for a felony he has not committed.
We denounce the lack of justice and the complicity of the State.

On past 3rd of August, in the midst of a judicial process, full of irregularities within the criminal case 199/2022, and of a series of acts that violate human rights and the presumption of innocence of the detained, the judicial power of the Oaxaca State has sentenced the activist Arnulfo García Santos, a displaced Triqui of San Miguel Copala, punishing him for a felony he has not committed.
Due to this, various democratic organizations have released a statement that rejects the irregularities and demands the reopening of the case.
Here we publish the statement in support of this political prisoner of the people’s movement.

The organizations that have signed express our rejection concerning this delirious sentence, against the comrade Arnulfo García Santos, displaced Triqui of San Miguel Copala, who was detained on the 28th of June 2024 and sentenced this 3rd of September 2025, ruled by the Judge of the Coast Tribunal, located in Putla Villa de Guerrero, Oaxaca. He was sentenced to 35 years and a fine of 2 million pesos to compensate for the damage of the felony he has not committed.
We also denounce that during the time that Arnulfo is imprisoned, his health has suffered drastically and he already has lost 80% of his vision, his access to healthcare and medication is limited, due to the fact that the Mexican State is breaking the Nelson Mandela Rules and the human rights of imprisoned persons in the Oaxaca prisons.
We demand:
- That the case of comrade Arnulfo García Santos reopens and his right to presumption of innocence, equality in all aspects and the complete fulfillment of a proper defense are respected.
