Successful Ambushes in the Peoples War of Philippines

New People’s Army (NPA) units have engaged in combats against the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in several areas of the country.

The NPA combatants eliminated three soldiers and injured three more in an ambush in Barangay Palapas, Ligao City on Thursday, August 21. The eliminated soldiers were part of a 16-man squad of Charlie Company, 49th Infantry Battalion (IB), which was attempting to surround a guerrilla unit stationed not far from the scene.

Ka Florante Orobia, spokesperson of the Santos Binamera Command (NPA-Albay) said the key of the action “was good intelligence and the broad support the NPA enjoys from the masses.”

The New People’s Army (NPA)-Northern Negros (Roselyn Jean Pelle Command) conducted two armed actions against military assets in Negros Occidental on September 3-4. The military assets in question were involved in two raids on people’s army units that martyred guerrilla fighters.

A member of the of 79th IB was ambushed on September 3 by guerrilla fighters and a .45 firearm, ammunition, magazines and a radio were seized from him. This member had previously led a raid against four guerrilla fighters on September 30, 2021. Similar action took place against other military asset on September 4, responsible in 2008 for raiding a NPA unit and harassing and abusing residents and peasants.

On September 4th a unit of the New People’s Army (NPA)-South Central Negros (Romeo Nanta Command) ambushed the units under the 94th IB and CAFGUs operating in Sitio Balao, Barangay Tan-awan, Kabankalan City. Three soldiers of the old State were wounded.

The soldiers of the old State retaliated due to the damage received. The 94th IB and CAFGU fired their guns indiscriminately for almost two hours, forcing 116 households (480 people) from the town of Palawis, Balao, and Alambihod to evacuate.

After this cowardly act, as if they were not the ones to cause the displacement in the first place, the 94th IB, together with the government of Kabankalan City hypocritically returned to Barangay Carol-an on September 5th to “distribute” food and medical aid to the displaced families they themselves had displaced. They also had “peace dialogues” trying to veil their previous psychological war and threats.

After the fact the 3rd ID spread false claims of wounding the fighters of NPA-South Central Negros, and that only one of their soldiers were wounded, to conceal their defeat.
