Bangladesh – New Democratic People’s Front: Nepal’s Popular Uprising Leads to the fall of Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli’s Government

We hereby share a statement issued by the New Democratic People’s Front and published by the Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement (RSYM)’s Facebook page on the recent developments in Nepal.

Without the leadership of the working class and the peasant’ program, there will be no change in the fate of the Nepali people!

The young generation and the general public were outraged by the corruption, discrimination and nepotism of the ruling class in Nepal. Civil society started a protest movement against all this. In order to control all these protests, the Oli government added fuel to the fire of the movement on September 4, 2025, when the Ministry of Information and Communication of Nepal decided to block 26 social media platforms including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube. Protests by the young generation started in several major cities of Nepal including Kathmandu in protest of this decision of the government. This movement was promoted as the ‘Gen-G’ movement. In reality, led by the youth and with the widespread participation of the general public, the movement on the issue of blocking social media was intense, but a movement against the corruption, looting, discrimination, etc. of the government that has been going on for the past years started on September 5. And on September 9, the people of Nepal brought down the government led by K. P. Sharma Oli in a blood-soaked street movement with the death of 24 first, and finally 71 martyrs.

The Nepalese monarchy fell in 2006 through the sacrifice of the martyrs in the revolutionary struggle of the Nepalese people. The Prachanda-Baburam clique betrayed that sacrifice. They have colluded with the corrupt ruling class, diverted the struggle for the establishment of a people’s democratic State, and run the State within the framework of the imperialist system. This treacherous clique and their reactionary allies, which have been in power for so long, have been exploiting and torturing the people. The corruption, looting, discrimination, nepotism, etc. of the main leaders of the bourgeois government have angered the ordinary middle class, students, youth, and working people. They have deprived them of various types of social, political, and economic rights.

The main leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), K. P. Sharma Oli, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) led by Prachanda and the Nepali Congress leader Deuba have not allowed the Nepali people to fulfill their hopes and aspirations. As a result, the students, youth and the general public have pulled the strings of the ruling class. They have set fire to their residences and chased them away. The protesters have vandalized the residence and office of former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, which is an expression of their justified anger. This is the positive side of the people’s rebellion or movement against the ruling class.

Oli-Prachanda was pro Chinese imperialism and Deuba was pro-India. At the beginning of the movement, US imperialism and the European imperialist group supported this movement. Indian Prime Minister Modi has made heartbreaking comments about the casualties of this movement. This movement was spontaneous. As a result, there was no specific direction for the people to seize state power. As a result, various groups of the ruling class, agents of imperialism, tried to use this movement for their own group interests. The army, as part of the bourgeois state system, controlled the movement. And formed an interim government headed by former Justice Sushila Karki. The government will hand over state power through national elections in 2026. This is the negative side of the movement. Because this interim government and the next elected government will not be able to fulfill any of the aspirations of the struggling people.

After the July-August coup in Bangladesh last year, the government of the third power loyal to imperialism has not fulfilled any of the aspirations of the people. It is running the State in the old way. Because it was not a mass movement of workers and peasants based on the leadership of the working class and the peasants’ program. As a result, the third power, a different group of the broker ruling class, robbed the fruits of the July coup. The imperialist system is continuing to exploit and torture the people in a new way, and the ruling class that is out of power is now engaged in a power struggle. Although the Oli government was overthrown with the blood of 71 martyrs in Nepal, no kind of socio-economic-political rights of the Nepalese people have been established and will not be established. Because this movement was not a mass conscious movement of the oppressed classes and peoples, including workers, peasants and women, based on the leadership of the working class and the peasants’ program. As a result, the “third power” has taken power under the control of imperialism, different groups of the broker ruling class and the army. Just like the July-August coup in Bangladesh last year. Similar to Bangladesh, KP Sharma and his followers are safe in the custody of the army. Therefore, there has been no change in the fate of the Nepalese people, nor will there be. The people of Nepal must take forward their struggle to seize state power through revolutionary struggle, i.e., the new democratic revolution, based on the peasant program, led by the working class. The victory of the people is assured.
