Ecuador: Initiation of Days of Struggle Against the Fascist Government of Noboa

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a new statement by the Defense Front of the People’s Struggles in Ecuador (FDLP-EC) on the big protests and struggles that are taking place against the anti-people’s measures by the Daniel Noboa government. We have already published several statements and an article on this regard:

Yesterday marked a powerful initiation of the days of struggle against the Noboa’s comprador-bureaucratic regime.

Imbabura serves as an example to be followed for the days of struggle. Peasants, indigenous people, workers, and popular masses organized permanent blockades on the roads that connect the capital with the northern border. Step by step, the people’s uprising takes shape and advances with conviction.

The government’s response has been a total militarization of the province: troops, armored vehicles and weaponry to try to break the unbreakable: the just rebellion of the people. Along with the weapons, a propaganda campaign is being unleashed to minimize the insurrection, fabricate fake news and wrap it all up in a populist discourse that aims to legitimize the offensive of an openly fascist regime.

The Defense Front of the People’s Struggles in Ecuador denounces in front of the masses the surveillance, harassment and persecution of militants, collaborators and sympathizers by intelligence agencies.

To the fools and scoundrels of power we say: Nothing, absolutely nothing will stop the decision to continue the people’s uprising. Because it is legitimate and necessary, it will be unstoppable until the objectives set are achieved: Repeal of Decree 126 which eliminated the diesel subsidy. Reduction of VAT from 15% to 12%. End the extractive model. Increase the budget for health, education and real security. Revocation of mining licenses of the Quimsacocha, Las Naves, Palo Quemado projects and more.

We must stir up the people’s struggle. We will wear down the regime by surrounding the cities from the countryside.

It is up to the conscious element of the class and the people to confront and crush the indigenous, peasant and union leaders who, with cowardice demobilize the masses under the argument that “there are no conditions” for the uprising, and who intimidate their bases with threats from the fascist regime of legal prosecutions for “terrorism”, dismissals and reprisals of various kinds.

In view of this, we must unmask them, subject them to basic control and isolate their influence. Where they cause harm, we must revoke their mandate, demand accountability, replace them with a guideline which follows the program of the people.
