Mexico: Weekly Newsletter

We hereby share an unofficial translation of the excerpt on Mexico from the latest Weekly Newsletter published by Sol Rojo.

September 26 marked the 11th anniversary of the forced disappearance of 43 students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Teachers’ College in Ayotzinapa, Guerrero. In response to this, the National Popular Assembly (ANP) drew up an action plan that included various actions in Guerrero and at the national level, which were marked by the firm militant combativeness of the comrades of the Federation of Socialist Peasant Students of Mexico (FECSM).

In this context, it should be noted that the old Mexican State, now managed by Claudia Sheinbaum, continues to give full protection to the Mexican army, just as the governments of Enrique Peña Nieto and Andrés Manuel López Obrador; according to the parents of the disappeared, the Mexican army was aware in real time of the activities of the young people on the night of September 26, 2014, and even intervened directly in the events that led to the forced disappearance of the young men… “The army has 800 pages of information in its possession,” say the parents and students of Ayotzi, who have also assured… “We will not give up until the army hands over the documents in its files and gives an account for the disappearance of our children.” This justifies the combativeness of the movement and the actions of harassment against military barracks.

On September 22, students from the FECSM threw firecrackers and petrol bombs at facilities belonging to the 35th Military Zone in Chilpancingo, Gro., where a brief confrontation with the army ensued. The dose was repeated on September 25 when FECSM contingents arrived at Campo Militar No. 1 or “Campo Marte” (used as a clandestine prison for students, popular leaders, communists, and guerrillas during the so-called “dirty war”); there, firecrackers and petrol bombs again were thrown, and

a delivery truck was set on fire at one of the entrances to the barracks, knocking down the gate.

Finally, on Friday, September 26 , a national march took place in Mexico City, with around 6,000 people participating (4,000 according to the city government). There were also clashes with the city’s riot police, particularly in the Zócalo. We want to highlight that the pigs in uniform were staging provocations throughout the afternoon, feeling very brave against some contingents that were painting graffiti or putting up posters in their path.

We want to emphasize that the uniformed pigs were provoking people throughout the afternoon, feeling very brave against some contingents who were painting graffiti or putting up posters in their path. The police were conducting checks, throwing baton blows and spraying chemical agents into the faces of the demonstrators. But when the young people responded to the aggression with firecrackers, Molotov cocktails, and other homemade explosives, the pigs tried to flee in disarray.

After this, the press monopolies unleashed a new media campaign encouraging repression against the teacher student movement, the black bloc, and anyone who raises their voice. This is nothing new! However, the most important thing to note is precisely that the mobilizations have been combative, breaking with the idea of “quiet” walks that do not bother the State at all.

Ayotzi lives, the struggle continues!

Long live the Rural Teacher Students!

Long live the Teacher Student movement!

It is right to rebel!
