Philippines: Military Operations by the NPA
Philippine Revolution Web Central (PRWC) has recently reported on several military operations carried out by the New People’s Army (NPA) over the past weeks. We hereby compile some of them:
On September 27, a NPA-Western Samar (Arnulfo Ortiz Commad) unit fired on the 8th Infantry Division (ID) troopers operating in Sitio San Pedro, Barangay Poblacion 3, San Jose de Buan, Samar. The NPA attack eliminated one soldier and injured many others.
The NPA-Western Samar explained that its armed action all the more disproves the Marcos regime’s claims that “no guerrilla groups remain.”
On October 1, a NPA-Mindoro (Lucio de Guzman Command) unit repelled 203rd Infantry Brigade (IBde) and the 2nd Civil Military Operations (CMO) Battalion troopers’ attack on its temporary camp in Sitio Badyang, Barangay San Roque, Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro.
Since August, the 203rd IBde has suffered continuous losses and damage against NPA-Mindoro units’ active defenses against their attacks. “The army ensures constant vigilance against incoming enemies, seizes initiative in battle, and guarantees damage to the enemy,” NPA-Mindoro spokesperson, Ka Madaay said.
On the night of October 3, the NPA-Southwest Negros (Armando Sumayang Jr.) raided the house of 15th IBde intelligence asset Garde Francisco in Sityo Lumbia, Barangay Kamansi, Kabanklan City, Negros Occidental, for having committed numerous crimes against the revolutionary movement and the Filipino people. PRWC reports that Francisco was eliminated during the raid.
“Francisco was involved in three other killings of civilians, revolutionary leaders, and Red fighters by armed state forces on Negros island. He identified and tracked down the positions of comrades, which led to deliberate killings and massacres,” PRWC reports.
