FDLP- Ecuador: ON THE IDEOLOGICAL AND POLITICAL DIRECTION OF THE UPRISING
We share an unofficial translation of a statement by the Defense Front of the People’s Struggles in Ecuador (FDLP-EC).
Given the path that the people’s rebellion is taking, the Defense Front of the People’s Struggles in Ecuador considers it essential to affirm that the uprising needs, ineluctably, a correct ideological direction.
There is no more revolutionary class than the proletariat. Therefore, ideological direction must be in their hands and never again in the hands of bosses or the leaderships of CONAIE or Pachakutik, who have betrayed the blood and struggles of the people.
We recognize the activists of CONAIE and its class composition, not from an amorphous indigenism, but from its real condition: poor peasantry, artisans, workers, and informal workers, living expressions of semi-feudalism. Within this framework, they are the main force for the transformation of the old society. However, we do not follow the political and ideological line of its leadership or any organization that prioritizes bourgeois nationalism and views society exclusively through an ethnic prism.
We have made progress: the discussion is no longer just about an “indigenous uprising” but about an “indigenous-people’s uprising.” However, we must deepen not only the narrative but also the objective reality: opposing the trite, outdated, and opportunist discourse of certain leaderships with the task of building and strengthening the worker-peasant alliance with ideological hegemony of the proletariat. If we do not make these changes, the uprising will be a leap into the void and an opportunity for traitors to channel it into the elections, revisionism, and opportunism.
We cannot subordinate the life of the masses to the mood of corrupt and wavering leaderships or to the covert small-bourgeois leadership that, in many cases, tries to divert the course of the movement from a stale Trotskyist position. One cannot combat a fascist regime by waiting for “directives” from leaders who stumble due to their own class condition.
It is essential to provide the uprising with a just and firm ideological line. This is our responsibility before the great effort of the mobilized masses and the real possibility that this scenario opens the way to the revolutionary transformation of the old society, towards New Democracy and socialism.
