Maoist guerrillas have carried out several actions in the dense Saranda forest area of Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district. They caused several casualties and targeted the communications infrastructure of the old Indian State.

An improvised explosive device (IED) blast on Friday evening eliminated a head constable of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and injured at least two other paramilitary members, but the number might be bigger, as usually the repressive forces are not revealing the real numbers of its casualties. District police, the CRPF, and other security personnel were conducting an anti-Maoist operation in the Babudera area of the Samtha region when the Maoists triggered the IED blast.

The Maoist guerrillas have also carried out an action late Saturday night, also in the Saranda forests of West Singhbhum, where they set ablaze a mobile tower in Kolbhonga village. The Maoists broke through the tower’s perimeter and poured petrol on the generator and control unit, setting it ablaze. Within minutes, the equipment was completely destroyed.
