Ecuador: GLORIOUS PEOPLE OF OTAVALO STOPS MURDEROUS SOLDIERS AND POLICE OFFICERS

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement from the Defense Front of the People’s Struggles of Ecuador on the recent State repression faced by the people of Otavolo, in their struggle.

The fascist government staged a farcical “humanitarian convoy” to invade Ibarra. After facing rejection at the hands of the combative peasants of La Esperanza, they were unable to enter, leaving a trail of wounded, detained, and attacked people in every way.

The fascists believed that this would put an end to the uprising. They can keep dreaming. As they retreated, they were surrounded by the masses in Otavalo, who fought for more than ten hours against the regime’s dogs and henchmen.

There are no armed forces or police more cowardly than those of Ecuador. In Imbabura alone, they have deployed more than 7,000 troops, more than in Cenepa.

Let’s say it plainly: we are proud of our people, combative and rebellious, who are not afraid to be blown to pieces in order to fulfill their mission.

New leaders are emerging from the struggle. The overcoming of opportunists such as Santi, Quishpe, Iza, and Vargas is evident, and new leaders are emerging. CONAIE should be in the hands of this new breed of fighters who understand, in a different way, the nature of the struggle of indigenous peoples in relation to the interests of the classes that make up the popular bloc.

There has also been a significant renewal in the leadership of the peasant movement. The fundamental element still needs to be consolidated: the ideological leadership of the proletariat. In this way, the people’s strategic encirclement will strangle the old State.

The images say it all: a cowardly terrorist, surely a member of a large-scale organized crime group, fires his rifle at protesters. Out-of-control soldiers, unrestrained and unchecked, want the blood of the people; but this blood comes with a high price…

We insist: This government, its henchmen, the armed forces, and the police have earned the irreconcilable hatred of the people. There will never be reconciliation, we will never forgive, nor forget.
