Ecuador: THE NOBOA REGIME INTENSIFIES LEGAL AND POLICE PERSECUTION OF UNION LEADERS

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement from the Defense Front of the People’s Struggles of Ecuador.

The fascist Noboa regime continues its repressive terrorist campaign against the Ecuadorian people.

Today, the comrade lawyer Fausto Benalcázar, General Secretary of the Provincial Union of Health Workers “San Vicente de Paúl” of the province of Imbabura and spokesperson for the Front for The Defense of Workers’ Rights of Imbabura, has been brought to trial with the clear intention of intimidating and weakening the fighting capacity of the masses.

We know the will of our comrades: Nothing and no one will break the indomitable spirit of commitment and struggle of Fausto and those who today suffer persecution by the government and the old bureaucratic-landlord state.

We demand an immediate end to the criminalization of social protest, full due process guarantees, the dismissal of fabricated cases, and an end to police and prosecutorial harassment against leaders, workers, and communities in struggle.

We stand in solidarity with our comrade Fausto Benalcázar and all those who resist the onslaught of fascism.
