On the morning of October 9that least seven Rondônia State Police vehicles illegally entered the Valdiro Chagas area in Machadinho d’Oeste, where they went on to break into the residents homes, and ransack their belongings, A Nova Democracia (AND) reports.
The poor peasants denounce that the police’s entry was carried out without showing any kind of warrant, and without any other governmental body present. The Brazilian Association of People’s Lawyers (ABRAPO) has on numerous occasions denounced the criminalization and persecution campaign that the area is suffering.
Many activists throughout Brazil have showed solidarity with the current repression faced by the Area of Valdiro Chagas.
On September 19, while distributing leaflets celebrating the Heroic Armed Resistance of Santa Elina, the Montes Claros Land Struggle Support Committee denounced the murder of Raimundo Nonato by the paramilitary of the Civil Police, A Nova Democracia reports.
Several murals were also put up across the city. One mural was put up at a school, with the help of enthusiastic students. The murals chronicled the Santa Elina resistance, the formation of the LCP and denouncements of recent repressive offensives against peasants.

Two banners were also hung in the main square of Montes Claros reading: “Long Live the 30 Years of the Heroic Armed Resistance of Santa Elina” and “Full Support to the Valdiro Chagas and Gedeon Duque Encampment.”

On September 2nd, students at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) put up posters featuring AND news reports. They highlighted news stories involving recent attacks following an operation against LCP peasants to denounce the murder of a peasant in the region, AND reports.
The posters documented the crimes of agents of the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) and the Military Police (MP) in the Valdiro Chagas Area, in Rondônia.
AND reports that 300 people gathered on 21st of September on the Madeira-Mamoré Railway, protesting the so-called PEC da Blindagem-act, a proposal faced with much criticism from the broad masses.

All of these recent actions have drawn attention to the ongoing petition from The Brazilian Center for Solidarity with the Peoples (CEBRASPO). They have recently released a manifesto and petition calling on democratic entities, popular organizations and other defenders of the people’s rights to show solidarity with the League of the Poor Peasants (LCP) and demand an end to the persecution and criminalization of the peasant movement and the struggle for land.
The petition can be found here.
