Mexico: Weekly Newsletter

We hereby share an unofficial translation of the latest Weekly Newsletter by Sol Rojo.

On November 15, the so-called “March of Generation Z” took place in Mexico City and other cities. This was an anonymous initiative launched on social media that initially sought to capitalize on the events surrounding the murder of Carlos Manzo, which we have already discussed in this space. There was significant controversy on social media about the legitimacy of “Generation Z,” and notable concern from the presidency of the Republic, which immediately focused its efforts against Claudio X, Ricardo Salinas Pliego, and other figures from the big bourgeoisie linked to the right-wing coup. Regarding this, it is important that democratic-revolutionary forces take a firm position to avoid being swayed by the wind, maintaining the revolutionary course.

We think as follows:

1) The so-called call by the alleged “Generation Z” in Mexico has been a setup orchestrated precisely by the oligarchy and the comprador bourgeoisie, following the orders of Yankee imperialism and its interventionist agenda in our country.

2) This setup has had the open participation and support of the right-wing coup and fascism, through their organizations and platforms, using discourse and demands very similar to those used by FRENA or the Marea Rosa, to name just a few.

3) The setup consisted of using examples from recent mobilizations around the world, such as in Nepal where the youth rose up against the opportunistic and tyrannical government of the revisionists who held power for two decades, or in Madagascar where the youth rebelled against power outages and water shortages. It is true that there were other mobilizations in other countries where Luffy’s flags from One Piece were seen, but these two are where the rulers were overthrown, leading to the installation of military juntas “restoring” order.

4) These examples and the call by the alleged “Generation Z” in Mexico bear the indelible mark of the manuals of the so-called color revolutions, driven by Yankee imperialism around the world to overthrow inconvenient governments or those no longer useful to them, as in the recent case of Peru. These color revolutions are not a true social revolution (synonymous with progressive change or transformation) but a retrograde act that allows imperialism and reaction to impose their agenda through military coups and coups d’état that guarantee their interests.

5) It must be clear that there is no political position based on gender, sexual preference, skin color, age, or generation; political positions arise from THE SOCIAL CLASS TO WHICH ONE BELONGS, as taught by Karl Marx: “It is not consciousness of men that determines their being, but, on the contrary, their social being that determines their consciousness” With this, we are ensuring that, while there are biological and moral generational differences, IT IS NOT CORRECT TO DIVIDE THE PEOPLE IN THIS WAY, and instead, they should be united around class, experience, ideology, and the program of the Revolution that Mexico demands in the struggle for life, for justice, for land, and for national liberation, the program of the New Democracy Revolution that will guarantee the construction of Socialism in Mexico.

6) Mexican youth is also divided into social classes; that is, biological age unites them, but class separates them, and this is important to understand. The youth of the people, the children of the proletariat and poor peasantry, those who defend their culture, their language, and their indigenous territory, the students of public schools, those who could no longer continue studying, the unemployed youth, the youth marginalized by bureaucratic capitalism, those forced to migrate to cities or another country, have nothing to do with the alleged “Generation Z,” but have everything to do with the working class and the people in struggle; this youth must organize to fight the regime not only with marches and mass demonstrations, but mainly by arming themselves with the scientific ideology of the proletariat: Marxism-Leninism-Maoism.

7) There are probably other things to say, such as the implicit sympathies and symbolism that Eiichirō Oda, the author of the anime One Piece, handles throughout his passages, which would lead readers and fans to reject being used by the reaction and imperialism, it is worth thinking about.

Finally, it is also necessary to take a firm position against the repressive and reactionary policy of the Morenist government of Claudia Sheinbaum regarding recent protests, where the order was clear: Repression.

a) As early as November 13 and 14, in the context of the 48-hour National Strike by the CNTE and its mobilizations in Mexico City, Sheinbaum was very angry, linking the democratic teaching profession with the fascist right, accusing the teachers of being “violent” and ordering them to be repressed outside the National Palace.

b) Clearly, it is always cheaper to blame others than to assume a self-critical attitude, and Sheinbaum, like Obrador and all opportunists, is an expert in this: “everyone is guilty except them, everyone is violent except them, the teachers and the mobilized youth are paid by the right to attack the government.”

c) According to the city government’s figures, at least 17,000 people participated in the march of the alleged “Generation Z” in City of Mexico on November 15, where many eager-to-fight youth were attracted by this call. The toll of the repression is 120 injured and at least 40 detained, according to a report from Proceso, and in various media and social networks, it could be seen how the riot police beat, chased, and attacked not only the protesters but also passersby, regardless of their age, physical condition, or anything else.

d) For the presidency of the Republic and the opportunistic government of Mexico City led by the opportunist Clara Brugada, the use of the riot police has served as a deterrent against anyone who dares to question the sacred Fourth Transformation Movement, undermining the discourse of “never again will the police or the army be used to repress the people.” Liars will always be discovered.

Neither the people nor the youth of the people can be divided or used by the big bourgeoisie and the old State! Organize youth anger in the ranks of the New Democratic Revolution! Down with all the big bourgeoisie, their parties, and their old State! It is Right to Rebel!
