On November 18, Madvi Hidma, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and Secretary of the Dandakaranya Special Zone Committee (DSKZ), an Adivasi originally from Bastar, was murdered along with his comrade and wife Rajakka, and five other comrades in a fake encounter, as denounced by numerous organizations, including the Campaign Against State Repression (CASR).
On Thursday, November 20, thousands of peasants marched while carrying the bodies of Madvi Hidma and Rajakka, to the funeral site where their bodies were cremated in their native village, Puvarti, in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, according to various reports published in the media and on social media.
Madvi Hidma was a highly respected and beloved cadre of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), as evidenced by the farewell ceremony. Upon his arrival in the village, hundreds of villagers gathered to receive the bodies and begin the cremation ceremony. The bodies were placed on a single funeral pyre and cremated, with offerings from the Adivasi peasants, who even provided their own clothes and sheets to ensure the flames burned more intensely.
According to local sources and revolutionary media such as Yeni Demokrasi, the old Indian State deployed a significant number of repressive forces around the funeral and set up checkpoints. However, this was in vain, as they were overwhelmed by the large number of peasants who attended the ceremony.
