International Day Against Violence against Women in Germany

Revolutionary activists carried out several actions in Germany on occasion of the International Day Against Violence Against Women. The violence against women continues increasing, as Dem Volke Dienen (DVD) explains: “Every three minutes, a woman in Germany experiences domestic violence”. And most cases of violence do not occur “in the dark alleys of large cities, but in the immediate domestic and social environment, at work, during sports, in churches, educational and health institutions – and above all in their own homes.” While the Chancellor Merz spreads fear about the alleged “danger” that comes from foreign workers in Germany, DVD states that “The greatest danger for women does not come from strangers, but from people the victim knows and trusts – regardless of origin, religion, or nationality. Furthermore, reporting perpetrators from the family or circle of friends and acquaintances is much more difficult and serious for victims of patriarchal violence than reporting perpetrators who are strangers.”
Many activists mobilized against this reality. The Red League (Roter Bund) organized a demonstration in Dortmund. Before that, they carried out several other actions. On Saturday November 22 an event took place, where a lecture on proletarian feminism was given.

The activists put up posters and made graffiti during the days before the mobilization.

Several dozen women and men marched from the main train station along Münsterstraße to Mehmet-Kubasik-Platz. Slogans such as “Wave upon wave, blow upon blow, against imperialism and patriarchy!” and “Rebellion in word and deed, fire and flames to the patriarchy!”, as well as other slogans in solidarity with the people of Palestine were chanted. Neighbors also asked for leaflets, joined the chants and also the demonstration.

There was also a march in Cologne where the Red League participated. The slogans “Wave upon wave, blow upon blow, against imperialism and patriarchy!” and “Rebellion in word and deed, fire and flames to the patriarchy!,” were chanted. The banner calling to “For the Building of a Red Women’s Movement” attracted a lot of attention.

A film screening and discussion has been organized on November 30 at 18:00h in the Demokratie Space, Kalker Hauptstraße 170.
