RSF Statement Against RSS-BJP’s Lynchings

On 07/12/2025, a Gita reading program was organized by the RSS-BJP at the Brigade Maidan in Kolkata. In the presence and at the instigation of the RSS, BJP agents, sexual harassers of women, even rapists, political leaders living a luxurious life and self-proclaimed ‘religious gurus’, two poor patty sellers were beaten up by Hindutva terrorists. A group of Hindutva terrorists led by RSS and BJP worker Soumik Goldar surrounded two patty sellers named Sheikh Riazul and Shyamal Mandal and mob-lynched them for selling non-vegetarian food and threw all the food on the ground. Since one of the sellers was a Muslim, they were further assaulted, and they proudly recorded a video of this political hooliganism and released it on social media.
Everyone knew that RSS BJP would hire goons from other states to fill the Brigade Maidan. Earlier, they have adopted the same strategy to incite communal riots in Bengal on Ram Navami several times. Mamata Banerjee, who is the Chief Minister and Police Minister at the same time, ‘Mukhen Maritang Jagat’ against RSS BJP, provided such lax police security at such a big event of Hindutva terrorists that two working people had to be subjected to mob lynching-like terror. Another interesting thing is that even though the anti-mob lynching law was passed in West Bengal, the Bengal police, who found ‘Maoist posters’ in the university, could not identify the Hindutva terrorists from the mob lynching videos that were proudly shared on social media and arrest them. On the basis of the FIR filed by progressive, democratic and leftist lawyers and people, three people were arrested on 11/12/2025, but they were also granted bail by the evening. In the words of Kartik Maharaj, we have before our eyes an example of “Mamata’s full cooperation in organizing this event.”
A section of the progressive, democratic and leftist sector also needs to learn from this incident that when the fascistization of the Indian state is going on at a rapid pace, the so-called ‘democratic institutions’ – the administration and the judiciary – are also bound to become agents of the fascists. It is not possible to stop the fascist aggression and attack with the help of all these institutions that have surrendered to fascism. On the contrary, the drama of this arrest and bail has given more courage to the Hindutva terrorists, and the impression that they are unstoppable, because the administration and the judiciary are actually all in the pockets of the RSS. At such a time, the only way out is the militant resistance of the people.
We, on behalf of the Revolutionary Student Front, strongly condemn this incident of fascist attack on the working people. The government must take the responsibility of compensating every affected seller and ensuring their livelihood. And the fascist thugs must be punished appropriately. Along with that, the Trinamool government’s masking of their cooperation behind the cover of pseudo-anti-fascism must be removed. To that end, we call on all progressive, democratic and left-wing individuals and organizations and the wider masses of the working class to build militant mass resistance at all levels against fascist terrorists.
