VIDEO – Report on the Peasant Self-Defense in NorBrasil, Rondônia
We hereby share a video and an unofficial translation of a note published by A Nova Democracia (AND).
The peasant self-defense of the peasant areas that nowadays occupy the former NorBrasil latifundium in Nova Mutum Paraná (Rondônia), where the Tiago Campin dos Santos area is located, defeated an armed attack by goons working for the big landlords on the night of November 26. The terrorist action sought to set houses on fire and instill fear in peasant families, but was repelled by the organized resistance of the masses who live and work in the area. The “trash press” of Rondônia rushed to criminalize the peasants, calling legitimate self-defense “terrorism” and “rural guerrilla warfare,” while remaining silent about the actions of paramilitary gangs, land grabbers, and police paid by the latifundium. The episode exposes the role of the big landlord João Martins, his “security” network involving military police, and the collusion of the old State’s official agencies. What is underway is state terrorism in the countryside: violent evictions, fabricated executions, police operations at the service of land grabbers, and the repressive siege against the League of the Poor Peasants (LCP). In the face of this reactionary war, armed self-defense by the masses asserts itself as the legitimate right of poor peasants in the struggle for land, for the destruction of latifundium, and for the New Brazil.
