Yankee Imperialism Will Deploy Troops in Ecuador

On December 17th the US began a process of sending military troops to Ecuador, going against the will of the Ecuadorian people who voted “no” to the reopening of the territory to foreign military troops a month ago, A Nova Democracia (AND) reports.

The operation is described as a “temporary” partnership, although no official time limit has been stipulated. Daniel Noboa announced on social media that “this operation will allow us to identify and dismantle drug trafficking routes, and subdue those who believed they could take over the country.” consistently falling in line with the overall Yankee intervention strategy in Latin America.

The Noboa conglomerate controls one of the largest fruit export operations in the world, linked to large landholdings and Ecuador’s port logistics, and after the referendum results Daniel Noboa returned to the USA to reinstate the process that would culminate in the current deployment of US troops to the Latin American country.

Under the same pretext of combating “narco terrorism”, the US signed a “military cooperation” agreement with Paraguay last Monday (December 15th), allowing the presence of US troops and military activities in the country, including deployment of military personnel, the use of Paraguayan facilities, intelligence sharing, and joint operations.

This is happening while the ultra-reactionary Donald Trump announced a “total and complete blockade” of the entry and exit of oil tankers in Venezuela and designated the entire Venezuelan nation as a “foreign terrorist group.”

All the military operations in question are part of the so-called “New Strategy,” the official program currently in place for US international relations. The document, released on December 5th, outlined its strategy of imperialist intervention against oppressed countries, giving special prominence to Latin America. The document explicitly states that the goal is for the US to “continue being the greatest and most successful nation in the history of humanity and the home of freedom on Earth,”and declares the need to “restore its leadership in the Western Hemisphere.”.

AND reports that “Analysts point out that the “New Strategy” confirms the tendency of Yankee imperialism to increase its intervention in Latin American countries, under the condition of suppressing the questioning of Yankee imperialism’s “authority” by insurgent and revolutionary organizations, as is the case with the Paraguayan People’s Army (EPP), FARC dissidents, and other popular movements.”
