Brazil: Yankees Go Home! Get your claws out of Latin America!

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement published by the Workers’ League of Brazil on the American aggression in Venezuela.

The kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores on January 3 by Yankee troops demonstrates the criminal and unprecedented nature of attacks against the sovereignty of a country in the contemporary history of Latin America.

This is a direct attack on Venezuelan sovereignty. It is a flagrant violation of any principle of self-determination of peoples and an affront to all oppressed nations of the world and to “international law.”

The military incursion carried out by land, sea, and air, combined with bombings against military and civilian installations, reveals the predatory nature of the Yankee “New Strategy” headed by the cannibal Donald Trump.

Trump’s subsequent statements announcing that he will “run Venezuela” and take over its oil reserves lay bare the colonial objective of this imperialist aggression.

This attack does not express strength, but rather the desperation of an empire in crisis that resorts to extreme violence to intimidate peoples who resist its domination and to send messages to its imperialist rivals. The operation is part of a Low Intensity Warfare (LIW) strategy aimed at imposing fear and economic tensions to secure Yankee strategic interests and contain the advance of Chinese social-imperialism and Russian imperialism in the South American subcontinent.

The aggression against Venezuela is part of a broader plan to militarize Latin America, expand military bases, and deepen imperialist interference, with open threats to other countries in the region such as Cuba, Colombia, and, indirectly, Brazil. Under false pretexts such as “combating drug trafficking,” the United States is moving to strengthen its control over the region and prepare to repress popular uprisings and the danger of revolution.

We call on all anti-imperialists, true democrats, revolutionaries, and the peoples of Latin America to raise a powerful popular protest, denouncing imperialist aggression and strengthening the struggle for national liberation and self-determination of peoples!
