Widespread Mobilizations in Defense of Venezuela in the US

In many cities across the United States, there have been widespread actions and demonstrations denouncing the attack on Venezuela.

The Partisan reports that, following the attacks on Venezuela’s capital Caracas on January 3rd, The Partisan “issued a call all workers, revolutionaries, and progressives in the United States to immediately take to the streets and reject the imperialist war of aggression against the Venezuelan people.” Activists across the country mobilized in response.

On January 4th, in Columbus, Ohio, a coalition of organizations, including People’s Defense Columbus, RSU Columbus, Columbus New Labor Committee, and Central Ohio Revolutionary Socialists led over a 100 people in a rally and march against the Ohio Statehouse, highlighting during the march “the need to let the Venezuelan people determine their own future free from US imperialist aggression, as well as the need to build an independent and class-conscious mass movement in the US.”, The Partisan reports.

A demonstration was organized on the same day in Humboldt Park, Chicago, Illinois, with participants from the Borikén Liberation Front and People’s Defense Chicago, denouncing the imperialist attack on Venezuela.

Another demonstration was mobilized, also in Humboldt Park, for 11th of January. People’s Defense Chicago, the Borikén Liberation Front, the Chicago Workers’ Circle, Revolutionary Students Union – Chicago, Black Youth Project 100, and Unidos por el Pueblo participated in the demonstration along with many masses in protest of the imperialist aggression in Venezuela. From the park, demonstrators marched down North Avenue to the National Guard Armory, where several speeches were held.

On January 4th in Oklahoma City, a rally was organized with participants from People’s Defense Oklahoma City, Edmond Students League, and the Oklahoma City New Labor Committee. The activists mobilized to the Plaza Calle Dos Cinco to condemn the undeclared war on Venezuela.

On January 7th in Denton, Texas, People’s Defense Denton and Denton Student Union mobilized against the bombing.

On January 8th, members of the League of Revolutionary Students (LRS Washtenaw), Solidaridad Organizada para la Liberación (SOL), Students Allied for Equality and Freedom (SAFE), and the TAHRIR Coalition held a teach-in on US imperialism in Venezuela, Latin America, and worldwide.

Similar mobilizations condemning the attack on Venezuela also took place on January 6th in Washington, D.C., January 4th in Providence, Rhode Island, January 11th in Johnson City, Tennessee, and in New York City on January 3rd.
