India – FACAM: Stop Operation Black Forest 2

We hereby share a statement by the Forum Against Corporatization and Militarization (FACAM) issued on their Instagram account.

FACAM demands the following:

1. The immediate withdrawal of security forces from Karregutta hills, and the cessation of Operation Black Forest 2.

2. Cease the ongoing manhunt of alleged Maoist leaders. Ensure that all measures carried out by the state in resolving the issues pertaining to the Maoist movement are strictly in accordance with the Constitution and the rule of law.

3. The captured Maoist rebels must be produced before a magistrate within 24 hours and processed strictly following due process, with their right to life (Article 21) protected, full access to legal counsel (Articles 22(1) and 39A), freedom from torture or custodial violence, and all fair-trial guarantees, in compliance with India’s constitutional obligations and its duties under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention Against Torture, and Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions, which mandate humane treatment, protection from arbitrary detention, and trial by a competent, independent, and impartial court.

4. Stop Operation Kagaar. The bloodbath under the Kagaar war has claimed more than thousand lives, and is still continuing to do so. Pursue a political resolution to the issue instead of genocidal military operations.
