Mexico: Statement from Civil Society regarding the serious situation in the Lower Mixe region

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement published by Mural Newspaper.

The signatory organizations, communities, and collectives of this statement condemn the acts of bloodshed and violence perpetrated against the Mixe communities of Loma, Santa Cruz, El Platanillo, Rancho Juarez, Los Valles, and San Antonio del Valle by an armed group responsible for at least 5 homicides and 7 injuries, including 3 residents of El Platanillo murdered in February 2025. These attacks, for which the agrarian and municipal authorities of Santo Domingo Petapa are directly responsible, have gone unpunished, allowing the perpetrators to feel protected and continue committing all kinds of abuses.
So far, the state government and the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Oaxaca have only minimized the events that we denounce here.

For the reasons stated above, we demand the immediate intervention of the Salomon Jara government and the federal government to pursue criminal charges against the intellectual and material authors of these crimes and the displacement of some 85 families from the Loma Santa Cruz Community.

We demand that the displaced families of Loma Santa Cruz be attended to immediately.

Enough of abuses, enough of impunity!
