Mexico, CP – Red Sun: On the Solidarity with the 72-hour National Strike by CNTE
We hereby share an unofficial translation of the statement by Current of the People – Red Sun found in Solrojista.
To the grassroots of the democratic teachers,
To the National Coordinator of Educational Workers,
Current of the People Red Sun salutes the initiation of the 72-hour National Strike carried out by the democratic teachers organized in the National Coordination of Educational Workers (CNTE). This National Strike of the educational workers in Mexico has set as its starting date the 155th anniversary of the first essay of the World Proletarian Revolution: the Paris Commune.
Together with the teacher grassroots, our democratic organization blame the old Mexican State and its current leaders, represented by the technocrat government of Claudia Sheinbaum, for continuing the policies imposed by imperialism through the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank Group (WBG), and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OCDE), among others. We uphold that the abandonment of the public expenditure in education, the lack of educational infrastructure, the lack of equipment and basic services in the public schools, the lack of free uniforms, shoes and breakfast for all students, and the imposition of the technocratic model, the so-called “new Mexican school” is an answer of the imperialist interests (mainly Yankee). This takes place while the public expenditure on security matters and armed forces increasingly rises as an expression of the militarization of the country and the economy amidst the war against the people, which has left 500,000 murdered people and more than 130,000 disappeared throughout the country, many of whom are democratic teachers and revolutionary fighters of our people.
As part of the Mexican people we support the struggle by CNTE for the repeal of the Law of ISSSTE from 2007 and the poorly named “education reform” of EPN-AMLO, as well as the demand to cancel the AFORES-UMAS system and the comeback of the retirement and pension plans, in addition to the 100% salary increase for all educational workers in the country. All of them are just demands and must be attended and solved immediately by the Mexican State. For this reason we support the demand of dialogues between CNTE and the presidency of the republic.
Today, the 72-hour National Strike starts with the demonstration and the national sit-in in Mexico City, together with mobilizations and sit-ins in other federative entities, expressing the path of unity-struggle-unity to the teachers and guaranteeing its massive mobilization and defeating the pro-government and the collaboration with the enemy. We understand that this is the correct path that the proletariat and the working class must take when facing the perspective of confronting and defeating the class enemies, who are willing to deliver the country into the hands of Yankee imperialism. Before this, we, the workers and the people, must prepare for the General Strike of National Resistance amidst the new threats that grasp our country and our people.
Today, the 72-hour National Strike starts with the demonstration and the national sit-in in Mexico City, together with mobilizations and sit-ins in other federative entities, expressing the path of unity-struggle-unity to the teachers and guaranteeing its massive mobilization and defeating the pro-government and the hidden reactionaries within the movement who have bet on demobilization and collaboration with the enemy. We understand that this is the correct path that the proletariat and the working class must take when facing the perspective of confronting and defeating the class enemies, who are willing to deliver the country into the hands of Yankee imperialism. Before this, we, the workers and the people, must prepare for the General Strike of National Resistance amidst the new threats that grasp our country and our people.
We salute the integrity and political consistency of the democratic teachers’ movement, which, in the midst of an international context characterized by wars of aggression, annexation, and occupation against oppressed peoples in Ukraine, Palestine, Lebanon, Venezuela, and Iran, and threats of intervention against Cuba and Mexico, are calling for internationalist actions in front of the embassies of imperialist countries, thereby strengthening the call for the construction of a genuine Anti-Imperialist Front.
From Current of the People Red Sun, we ratify our active and militant solidarity and announce that we will be participating in the various actions of the CNTE, proudly waving the red flags of the New Democratic Revolution, which is agrarian and anti-imperialist, uninterrupted towards the construction of Socialism in Mexico.
