Belgium (AIL): March Against Racism in Liège: Emphasis on ‘Struggle Together’

As part of March 21, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, a march was held in the Belgian city of Liège with the participation of hundreds of people. Organized within the framework of actions carried out across the country, the march delivered strong messages against racism, discrimination, and social inequalities

Demonstrators who filled the streets chanted slogans throughout the march such as “We are all children of Gaza,” “Free Palestine, free Lebanon, free Iran,” “We are all antifascists,” “We are all anti-Zionists,” and “First, second, third generation; we are all children of migrants.” These slogans highlighted both international solidarity and the shared struggle of workers of migrant origin.

During speeches made at the demonstration, government policies were criticized, while the unity of the working class, solidarity, and demands for equality were emphasized. It was also stated that everyone, regardless of their origin or skin color, has the right to live, to housing, and to work in dignity.

Activists from the European Migrant Workers Union (AGEB) and the Antiimperialist League (AIL) also took part in the march. AIL activists additionally carried out a banner and poster campaign in the streets of Liège.

Throughout the demonstration, calls were made stressing that people fleeing unjust wars, exploitation, and poverty must be welcomed with dignity, and an end to discriminatory policies against migrants was demanded. The protest also called for a united struggle against rising racism and anti-migrant rhetoric.

At the end of the day, one message stood out: the fight against racism can only be won through unity and international solidarity.
