Day of the Young Combatant in Cerro Navia, Chile
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a note by the newspaper El Pueblo.
On March 29, a new day of struggle and resistance was commemorated in honor of Paulina Aguirre, Mauricio Maigret, Eduardo and Rafael Vergara, and the young combatants.
In an event at Plaza Ho Chi Minh, this day especially commemorated Johnny Cariqueo, a popular young fighter from the western sector of Santiago, who was detained after a commemorative act on March 29, 2008, and later died as a result of the criminal actions of police officers.
After the event, Avenida Mapocho was filled with popular youth and neighbors who came out of their homes to show, once again, that State repression is not feared.
When price increases strike the aspirations for a dignified life, and when successive pro-imperialist governments unleash their crises against the people, this new day of popular protest keeps the combative flame burning high, which will continue to grow.
Comrades fallen in the popular struggle, present!
