The newly appointed interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, invited Yankee imperialism to “work together on a cooperation agenda,” according to A Nova Democracia (AND). The statement was issued on Sunday, January 4, one day after the US military attack that bombed the capital, Caracas, and after which the Americans kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Delcy Rodríguez was recognized as interim president by the Venezuelan Armed Forces and Supreme Court yesterday, Sunday, January 4.

The statement issued by the new interim president also states that “We consider it a priority to move toward a balanced and respectful international relationship between the US and Venezuela, and between Venezuela and the countries of the region, based on sovereign equality and non-interference.” AND points out that the military power of Yankee imperialism continues to target Venezuelan interests as part of its war of aggression and violation of national sovereignty.

The Brazilian media outlet also notes that internal sources within the US media monopolies have stated that the US government has decided to replace Maduro with another representative, considered to be “flexible and a negotiator.”

While the new Venezuelan government issues such statements, US President Donald Trump stated in a press release on January 3 that if Delcy Rodríguez “does not do the right thing, she will pay a very high price, probably higher than Maduro’s.” In the same interview, Trump warned that US monopolies would take control of Venezuela’s oil exploitation. Marco Rubio, for his part, has emphasized that restrictions on oil exports and the military blockade of Venezuela will remain in place “until we see changes.”
