Mexico: Weekly Newsletter
We hereby share an unofficial translation of an excerpt on the part on Mexico from the Weekly Newsletter, published by Sol Rojo on the 9th of February.
In case anyone thought Trump would not tighten the noose around Sheinbaum’s neck any further, this week’s events tell a different story. After ordering her to suspend oil shipments to Cuba, the imperialist US government has now ordered the woman who presides over our country to “authorize” the entry of more US military aircraft into Mexican territory.
The justification for the entry of two Hercules aircraft and two HH-60W helicopters from the US Air Force, just this past February 5, has been for “humanitarian reasons” (sic) to carry out tasks to “rescue a patient who is part of the crew of a ship,” according to a statement from the National Defense Ministry. However, no one believes the federal government, and no Mexican should ignore the fact that since the beginning of Trump’s second term in the White House in January 2025, the presence of US ships, planes, drones, helicopters, and military troops, as well as DEA, FBI, and other agents, has become increasingly constant and blatant.
Morenista’s argument of “cooperation and shared responsibility” to justify these acts that violate national sovereignty sounds just as hollow as those made in post-war Europe with the so-called “Marshall Plan,” which meant (until today) the silent military occupation of the territory with the presence of Yankee troops and military bases everywhere.
Mexico is experiencing the prelude to this scenario, amid the chess moves of Yankee imperialism on the international stage. The imperialist government of the United States, which has threatened open military intervention in our country in response to the supposed “threat” of organized crime, has two well-defined options: the strategy of balkanizing the national territory as a justification for open intervention, or the silent (and tolerated) occupation of our country.
In both cases, Yankee imperialism knows that it can count on the collaboration of the old state and the absolute submission of the big bourgeoisie in power. It is necessary for the proletariat and the peoples of Mexico to overcome the state of dispersion within the popular movement, and for organized movements to break with the economistic and reformist practices that keep them co-opted under the cloak of official corporatism.
It is necessary to build a United Front to stop the war against the people and an Anti-Imperialist Front to take on the task of defending the Mexican people’s right to self-determination and national liberation.
Down with Yankee imperialism!
Let us build principled unity and unity in action!
