Yankee imperialism renewed its criminal aggression on Iran yesterday, bombing targets in southern Iran, as Tehran’s top negotiators gather in Qatar for talks with the United States (US). Once more the sole hegemonic superpower shows its treacherous face, as they decide to attack while negotiations are ongoing, and despite that a ceasefire is in force since April 8.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it carried out the “self-defense strikes” to protect US troops from threats posed by Iranian forces, and the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that the US armed forces targeted “missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to emplace mines”.

Iranian media reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, some 70km (42 miles) from the Strait of Hormuz, in southern Iran. Ahlul-Bayt News Agency (ABNA) reported on at least four murdered in the US attack, but according to local sources the number of casualties is still unclear. According to local reports, the situation in the nearby port city of Bandar Abbas remained calm following the attack.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp reported that they shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone that entered its airspace. An RQ-4 drone and an F-35 fighter jet were also forced to flee Iranian airspace after Revolutionary Guards air defenses opened fire, said the statement.

Iran’s senior armed forces spokesman said Tehran would respond more forcefully to any new attack by the United States or Israel, saying the Islamic Republic had identified targets and was prepared for war.
