Report of the day of mobilization on May 29th

We publish this unofficial translation of the report on the day of mobilization of Sol Rojo and MAIZ found here.

“The worker needs more respect than he needs bread”

Karl Marx.

To the working class and the workers

To the poor peasantry and the oppressed native peoples

To the democratic teachers of Section XXII of SNTE-CNTE

To the unions and democratic-revolutionary organizations

Last Monday, May 29th, jointly with the comrades of the Zapatista Indigenous Agrarian Movement (MAIZ), we carried out a day for justice and the rights of the people under the modality of regional mobilizations.

This activity, which had been announced since April 10 and ratified at the speech on May 11, has been carried out as agreed upon, in solidarity with the support bases of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), concretely with the autonomous community Moisés Gandhi after the paramilitary attacks which it has been subjected. Likewise, our day has showed solidarity with the political prisoners of Eloxochitlán de Flores Magón and the comrades Mazatecas for Freedom, with whom we have coincided in the streets, sharing anger, dignity and the demand for justice.

March in the city of Oaxaca

Our mobilizations carried out simultaneously have had a concrete objective: to show that the masses of Oaxaca still have dignity and are above the governmental, economist and creeping agendas that have been imposed as practices of opportunism and reformism.

These actions have also been a call to build unity in action, on the basis of unity with principles, among the diverse organized and unorganized forces of the working people to raise the demands for justice that are non-negotiable, they are mainly to stop the criminalization of the popular movement, to stop the war against the people, to stop the militarization of the country and state terrorism, and to stop the imposition of anti-popular policies such as the imperialist megaprojects of plunder and death.

Thus, we submit this report to the masses of the people saying clearly: our struggle is just, our demands are legitimate and our determination is of proletarian and people’s steel.

On the actions

The concentration of the contingents of both organizations began early in the morning, at 8:00 a.m. As People’s Current Red Sun [Corriente del Pueblo Sol Rojo] we have developed the following actions:

Istmo The Crossing of Guamol, Panamerican highway, pass to Chiapas

Istmo The Caracol Crossing, Transistmica highway, pass to Oaxaca

Cuenca The Caracol bridge, Buenavista-Tuxtepec highway, pass to Veracruz

Sierra Sur Miahuatlán, roundabout of Caballito, pass to Puerto Escondido

Sierra Sur El Vado, pass to Juquila

Valles Centrales Huitzo, Oaxaca-México highway

Valles Centrales March from the Fountain of the 8 regions to Oaxaca

Blocked road in Miahuatlán

For their part, the comrades of MAIZ deployed various actions at different highway points in the Mixteca region, such as in Huajuapan and Tlaxiaco, respectively.

No major incidents were reported except for the presence of National Guard vans and some state police vans at various points taking pictures from distance, and some provocation attempts by undercover police portraying themselves as “civilians” claiming to be “affected” by the demonstrations (mainly in Oaxaca City). Neither the presence of the military and police, nor the rain that fell in different points have been enough to stop the movement; every point has remained firm, fulfilling with the established indications.

The recess of the day of mobilizations took place simultaneously at 17:30 and in the City of Oaxaca it was recessed with a speech at the gates of the palace of ignominy (government palace) [Translator’s note: Former palace that is used as a government building] where we ratified our determination to continue the struggle for justice and in defense of the rights of the people.

Speech in the doors of the government palace

This mobilization has been important because it has helped to give confidence to the common people, reminding them that, just as mobilization is an inalienable right of the workers and peoples, so is also the right to rebel against the tyranny and repression that at this moment are looming in Oaxaca like the memory of the Ulisiato (eviction of displaced women from San Juan Copala -December 2, 2022- new eviction and detention of women from San Juan Copala -February 28, 2023- eviction against community members of Santiago Xiacuí – March 1, 2023 – assassination of our comrade Félix Vicente Cruz in the community of 20 de Noviembre, San Francisco Ixhuatán -13 March 2023- eviction of Ajyuuk ejidatarios [Translator’s note: Communal Peasant] from the Tierra y Libertad [Land and Freedom] in Mogoñé Viejo, San Juan Guichicovi -April 28th, 2023- armed attack against against the community of San Lucas Atoyaquillo, Santiago Itayutla -12 May 2023- detention and eviction against CENEO -23 May 2023).

That is why we have loudly shouted our slogans in the streets, making everyone speak and giving voice to the voiceless. Faced with the ghost of repression we must impose unity in the action of the workers and the peoples.

On the objectives.

The mobilization has been a success showing that the left organizations from below are alive and active, and, as already mentioned, that it is not necessary to have a government or economist agenda in order to take the popular masses to the streets, because justice and dignity are the main issues.

Likewise, by taking actions in solidarity with other just struggles we are calling on other organizations and collective efforts to build a platform of unity for justice, against tyranny and repression. Our day joined the national and international solidarity actions with the EZLN from May 27th to June 10th, and on next June 8th as an organization we will be participating in the

coordinated action demanding the stop of the war against the Zapatista communities. In this way we have signed the national and international declaration in front of the aggression of the community Moisés Gandhi to demand a halt to the war against the Zapatistas.

During our mobilizations we made known the joint bulletin of MAIZ and CP-Red Sun as it takes up these proposals.

Finally, we would like to emphasize that according to the principles of our organization, we will continue hoisting the defense of the justice and the rights of the people under the purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly, and we will go out to the streets as many times as necessary.

The following is the joint communiqué.

To the Media

To the National and International public opinion

To the Social and Human Rights Organizations

To the Indigenous Peoples of Mexico and the World.

To the National Indigenous Congress-Indigenous Council of Government

In solidarity with the Zapatista communities.

Today, May 29th 2023, we once again decided to mobilize in front of the lack of justice and impunity that prevails, not only in the State of Oaxaca, where the highest number of murders of defenders of land and life is concentrated, but in the whole country, we have several demands, among them: the presentation with life of Dr. Sernas Garcia and Sergio Rivera Hernandez, disappeared by the State power; as well as punishment for the murderers of our comrades Luis A. Fuentes Aquino, Jesús M. García Martínez and Félix Vicente Cruz, not forgetting the debt owed by the Mexican State to Bety Cariño and Jyri Jaakkola, that turned the 13th anniversary of their assassination by paramilitary groups protected by the government. The institutions of the State of Oaxaca and the federal government have perpetuated impunity in this case, through pacts of impunity; we also demand the immediate release of all political prisoners, and especially those of Eloxochitlán de Flores Magón, for which we express our solidarity with Mazatecas for Freedom; our demands are also for the imprisonment of “Tacho Canasta”, who operates with full impunity in Tehuantepec with the support of the state government.

Our struggle expresses that today we join the call of the Zapatista communities who are facing permanent aggressions, we manifest that the Zapatista sisters and brothers are not alone, we demand an end now! to this war against our peoples and their territories.
