The ICC equals the oppressor with the oppressed

The ICC (International Criminal Court) has requested an international arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity, as finally now, after almost eight months of Israel openly and blatantly violating international laws and the genocide being broadcast live around the world, the court has ”found enough evidence” to charge the Israeli leaders with this. As the court of the imperialists, it also requested an arrest warrant for Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri and Ismail Haniyeh, in order to relativize the genocide Israel is carrying out, and has been carrying out for 76 years, with the resistance of the oppressed against their oppressors. Hamas condemned this action, maintaining that it has the right to do armed resistance against Israeli occupation, and demanded that according to the Rome Statute, the ICC should also prosecute all Israeli officers who gave orders to carry out crimes and all IDF soldiers who carried out crimes. In difference to the ICJ, the ICC is a criminal court and not a civil one, and can prosecute individuals. Israel and the US are not members of the ICC and do not recognize its jurisdiction. Israeli leaders reacted with outrage to the warrant, crying “anti-Semitism” and “scandal” and declared that the ICC will not stop it from continuing until it has achieved its goals in the war.

Currently, over 35,500 people have been murdered in Gaza. Only in the last 24 hours, over a 100 people have been murdered. Israel has also announced it will expand the operation in Rafah, from where according to the UN, over 810,000 people – most of who already had been once displaced from Northern Gaza – have been displaced during two weeks. On the 19th of May, the US national security adviser Jake Sullivan held talks with Israeli officials in Israel, asking Israel for “more targeted approach” in its military operation and to “avoid” a wider-scale offensive on Rafah. A week earlier the US again announced plans to provide 1 billion dollars of more funding to Israel, and at the same time, Israel intensified its attacks against residential buildings in Gaza, with weapons provided it to by the imperialists, mainly US imperialism.

In the recent days, the unity of the Palestinian national resistance front continues to work, with multiple joint operations being carried out by the Al-Qassam Brigades and Al-Quds Brigades, combating and resisting the attacks of Israel in Jabaliya, Zaytoun, Nuseirat and Rafah. According to the reports of the organizations, these operations have resulted in multiple dead and wounded among the IDF. Multiple Merkava tanks and other military vehicles have also been destroyed. Hezbollah also continues launching rockets against Israeli military targets.

We publish here some more recent actions regarding the Nakba-day, which was commemorated all over the world, reminding, that the State of Israel was founded on the occupation, genocide and displacement of the people of Palestine.

In São Paulo, Brazil, students, teachers, workers and sympathizers of the Palestinian cause gathered on the 17th of May to commemorate the 76 years of Nakba. In the demonstration, the slogan “Palestine resists, Palestine will triumph!” was raised and in speeches, freedom was demanded for Palestinian political prisoners.

In Bochum, Germany, a political-cultural event was organized by Palestine Solidarity Bochum, denouncing the crimes of Israel and demanding end to all occupations through various activities. Collectively, a 50-meter long mural was created during ten hours of the event, which gathered 70 people throughout the day.

In Essen, a banner with the slogan “Solidarity with Palestine in Duisburg and everywhere!” was put up in solidarity with the “Palestine Solidarity Duisburg”, which was recently banned by the Ministry of Interior – violating once more blatantly the freedom of organization – and against which house raids where carried out.

In Copenhagen, Denmark, a demonstration was held on the 18th of May to commemorate the Nakba day. The police was present heavily, guarding the Israeli embassy, where a group of reactionaries was holding a Zionist rally. Despite this, some demonstrators managed to get through to the embassy. In the demonstration, also a leaflet exposing the long history of the Danish police repressing Nakba-demonstrations was distributed. The leaflet also called for the boycott of the elections of the EU, reminding on the 18th of March 1993, when the Danish police shot over 100 live rounds against demonstrators who protested against the adhesion to the EU.
