Repression against Kaypakkaya commemoration 2021

Yeni Demokrasi reports, that in the case filed against the 13 people who were detained at the İbrahim Kaypakkaya commemoration on May 20, 2021 in Ankara, the prosecutor demanded punishment for all 13 people.

At the commemoration of İbrahim Kaypakkaya organized by Partizan, New Democrat Youth (YDG) and several others 13 people, including 4 readers of Partizan and YDG, attending the ceremony, were detained. After being held captive for 6 days, the detainees were released by the prosecutor’s office with a ban on leaving the country.

The 9th hearing of the case filed against these 13 was held on Friday at the Ankara 69th Criminal Court of First Instance. The prosecutor’s opinion was read out during the hearing. The accused were requested to be punished for violating the law on meetings and demonstrations. The verdict hearing will be held on June 6.

Meanwhile there was a brutal attack on around hundred people who resisted the demolition of their homes in Arnavutköy, a neighborhood of Beşiktaş, Istanbul.
