CASR STRONGLY CONDEMNS THE DELHI LG SANCTIONING OF PROSECUTION OF ARUNDHATI ROY AND FORMER PROFESSOR SHOWKAT HUSSAIN
On 14th June, Delhi LG granted sanction Against Writer Arundhati Roy and Retired Professor and Human Right activist Sheikh Showkat Hussain under UAPA for proactive speech at an event in Delhi 2010. This FIR was registered in 2010 regarding a Conference held in Delhi with the title “Azadi the only way” organized by CRPP(committee for release of political prisoners). After the Modi Government came in power for the 3rd time, they opened a war front against civil society. This is in line with what his security adviser said in 2021 society is the 4th front of war. The LG nod to give sanction to prosecute Arundhati and Showkat Hussain is clear indication that the Brahmanical Hindutva fascist state now punishes all the civil society who were vocal against the Modi government during its second tenure and had directly or indirectly tried to help the opposition to the topple the BJP away from power. This is not an isolated incident as this Fascistic Indian state has suppressed human right activists, Lawyers,writers,intellectuals in bogus UAPA cases like Bhima Koregaon and CAA NRC conspiracy cases.
UAPA along with NIA have become the two strong weapons in the hand of the Indian state enabling it to suppress every dissenting voice which challenges Brahmanical Hindutva Fascism’s hegemony.
CASR strongly condemns this move by the Indian state to prosecute retired Professor Sheikh Showkat Hussain along with the renowned author Arundhati Roy and demands the immediate withdrawal of the UAPA sanction. We appeal to all progressive and democratic forces to come together and build a movement to repeal UAPA which is unconstitutional and an anti people law and its only use to suppress all kinds of democratic voices.
