19 December / Report of actions for Georges Abdallah in Mexico and other locations

We hereby publish an unofficial translation of a report by Sol Rojo:

Despite court rulings for his release, our comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah is still imprisoned in the dungeons of French imperialism. The comrade is the longest-held political prisoner in old Europe, having spent 40 years as a hostage of imperialism in October for his unwavering dedication to the revolutionary and national liberation struggle of his native Lebanese people, as well as the Palestinian people. Following his involvement within the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and his role in the founding and struggle of the Revolutionary Armed Fractions for Liberation (FARL), he was imprisoned in France on October 24, 1984, and a show trial was held against him.

As we reported, in November a French court granted his eleventh request for parole, ordering him to leave the country and never return to French territory, and setting a release date of December 6, 2024.

Comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah was initially sentenced to life imprisonment, but his defense succeeded in modifying the sentence, and his “regular” sentence was served in 1999. Since then, a ruling for his release has been obtained, but this has been blocked by the prosecution under pressure and direct intervention by American imperialism and criminal Zionism since 2003 and 2013. This time, procedurally, the State does not have the opportunity to simply evade compliance with the order for his release, however the “anti-terrorist” prosecution filed an appeal against this decision, and a hearing is scheduled for December 19.

For this reason, actions have been taken around the world by democrats, revolutionaries and internationalists, responding to the call of the Unitary Campaign for the Liberation of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah (CupLGIA), putting pressure on imperialism to free our comrade. Among the reports that have already been spread are a graffiti in the German city of Leipzig and a series of mobilizations in Austria, where activists held a rally in front of the French embassy on October 17, underlining a statement by Comrade Abdallah on the new wave in the Palestinian national liberation war: “It is not the destructive capacities that the imperialists have at their disposal that ultimately decide on victory or failure, but mainly the women and men who are strongly linked to the popular masses of their countries and who fight against the occupation and for the liberation of their people .” For their part, the comrades of CupLGIA called for a central march on December 21 in Paris.

In Mexico, we held a rally and distributed leaflets in the main square of Oaxaca City, in conjunction with the Brigadas Juveniles del Pueblo and Periódico Mural, which published a special leaflet explaining the situation and the struggle of comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah. The leaflet was distributed and read from a central table, which was approached by many passersby, who discussed with interest the need for an anti-imperialist struggle and the just demand for the comrade’s release. During this activity, more than one hundred posters were posted and at least one thousand leaflets were distributed. In addition, the dissemination of information about the emergence of the Anti-imperialist League, of which the Corriente del Pueblo – Sol Rojo is a part, continued, and two large flags were displayed, one from Palestine and the other from Lebanon.

The current situation of Georges Abdallah

Despite the initial acceptance of the eleventh request for release and the fact that there are no other obstacles to Georges Abdallah regaining his freedom, the French State has once again shown its complete subordination to US imperialism. Under pressure from the latter, the judiciary decided to postpone the decision on the appeal until February 20th, next year. During the “non-public” hearing on December 19th, the US imperialist government, represented by the US State Department, participated as a “civil party” in the trial, that is to say, without any legal authority or legal personality, declaring that: “freeing Abdallah would be dangerous for the region, in particular because he continues to defy the occupation of his own country .” This narrative has been enough to violate Georges Abdallah’s right and to keep him in unjustified imprisonment for at least two more months, which clearly contravenes bourgeois law in France and internationally.

The Unitary Campaign declares: “Far from being discouraged by this new delay, all supporters of Georges Abdallah will remain mobilized until February 20.”

We need to increase our efforts and actions to achieve the liberation of our comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah by carrying out the work of a broad anti-imperialist struggle internationally and in our country. As a democratic organization, we will continue to support the actions of the comrades of CUpLGIA by calling on the progressive forces of our country that consider the struggle of Georges Abdallah as part of the just struggles of the people. As a member organization of the Anti-Imperialist League, we will prepare the conditions to call on organizations, collectives and individuals in our country who, like us, consider it necessary to raise actions to confront and defeat imperialist aggression against the people.

Let us take Comrade Georges Abdallah as an example of unwavering dedication and resist the reaction’s plans to assassinate him in prison as they have already done with too many revolutionaries around the world, as they did with Chairman Gonzalo in 2021.
