Linz, Austria: Demonstration against the Burschenbund’s Prom
We hereby publish an unofficial translation of an article by Rote Fahne, Austria:
The Linz’ alliance against right-wing organized a demonstration against the annual Burschenbundball (translator’s note: the prom of the reactionary students organization). Numerous organizations, initiatives and people took part. The 3,000 participants marched from the AEC-Platz to the Martin-Luther-Platz with a combative atmosphere.
The organizers invited to join in against annual Burschenbundball and protest them. Not only the demand to the governor of Upper Austria, Thomas Stelzer, to remove the “honor-guard” for the prom, was the focus. The demonstration was also directed against the current government coalition negotiations of FPÖ and ÖVP.
The Action for the democratic rights of the people (ADRV) also participated under the banner: “Organize, resist, combat!” Together with the Palestine committee Linz and forces from the Palestine Solidarity Movement, the censorship and the restricted freedom of demonstration and expression by the past ÖVP-Greens government were referred to and it was called for the defense of democratic and social rights. There were also signs calling to join the Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) in formation.
The leaflet of the ADRV, distributed there, impressively conveyed to stand firm against blue-black (Translator’s note: ÖVP and FPÖ coalition) on the one hand, but not to halt there, but also to raise against the rule of capital, which is the cause of exploitation and oppression in this society. The glorious liberation from Nazi fascism 80 years ago was also remembered.
Here are a few impressions of the demonstration:
