FFPS: Globally coordinated mobilizations on April 26!
We hereby share the following call that we have received from Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS):
On April 24, 2025, the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) will celebrate its 52nd anniversary. Despite the all-out attacks by the US-backed Marcos government and its predecessors, the NDFP stands strong as a genuine representative of the Filipino people and continues to unite them for the revolutionary struggle for liberation.
As part of our campaign to “Support The Filipino People’s Revolutionary Struggle For A Just And Lasting Peace!” and our build-up participation in the “Resist NATO 2025” campaign; we are calling on all members and allies to hold globally coordinated mass actions on the 26th of April, at 5PM of their respective time zones.
On this day we want to highlight the role of the people’s democratic revolution in building people’s peace – national and social liberation – and the role of the NDFP as representative of the Filipino masses in struggle. We can also contrast this with the US-led NATO’s war-mongering and assert that the Filipino people’s war for national and social liberation is the just and necessary response to imperialist war.
Under its strategic initiative “NATO 2030” the military alliance identifies China as a principal security concern—signaling further expansion of US-led militarization in the Asia-Pacific region. The Philippines has become a key strategic location for this expansion, particularly as part of the US’s “First Island Chain” strategy.
President Marcos Jr. has actively strengthened military ties with the US and other NATO countries through the expansion of US military bases, military aid, US-led war exercises, and increased military cooperation and Visiting Forces Agreements (VFAs). As NATO remains the model for US-led war strategy and war-profiteering, the Marcos government risks dragging the Philippines into another war of NATO aggression like Ukraine. An important highlight of this are the 2025 Balikatan joint US-Philippines military exercises, which are scheduled to take place from April 21 to May 9 and will feature a “full battle” simulation. Countries such as France, UK, Canada and other NATO members and allies previously also joined the 2024 exercises, which saw the deployment of more than 11,000 foreign troops.
The militarization and imperialist aggression of US-led NATO in the Philippines is detrimental to the local population and is in stark contrast with the allied NDFP organizations’ building of a genuine democracy and a peaceful foreign policy through revolution. The 12-point program of the NDFP highlights its vision for a genuinely peaceful foreign policy. Integral to this are the rejection of foreign intervention and imperialist aggression. The revolutionary outlook on international relations is based on the principles of mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, mutual benefit, and the peaceful resolution of inter-state conflicts.
As the NDFP and the revolutionary struggle in the Philippines continue to advance and consolidate political power, it directly challenges imperialist domination A stronger struggle for national liberation means a weaker grip by US imperialism on the Philippine islands. Furthermore, the revolutionary armed struggle ties down the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in a civil war, limiting its capacity to serve as a proxy army for US-led military aggression. Thus the Philippine revolution is a thorn in the eye of the US, NATO and its strategic interests, and the key deterrent of the Philippines being used as a launching pad for imperialist war. It is waged by the Filipino people as a necessary answer to imperialist war, oppression and exploitation.
As we strengthen our solidarity with the NDFP and the revolutionary movement in the Philippines, we directly counter US imperialism. At the same time we can support the Philippine revolution by further exposing and opposing US-led war — from the US-directed ‘counterinsurgency’ in the Philippines to other acts of imperialist aggression and intervention — and US imperialist control and domination, which is the biggest root cause of the suffering and hardship of the Filipino people.
Call to action:
Our main actions will be coordinated mobilizations around the world at 5PM of respective time zones, on Saturday, the 26th of April 2025. We are encouraging mass rallies in busy spaces that are sure to draw interest from people or in front of symbolic locations such as US embassies, local government buildings and other relevant symbols of US-led imperialism. Include posterings and leafletting to ensure reaching a wide amount of passers-by and draw in interest.
Next to the militant mass actions, there would be opportunities for holding build-up events such as information evenings, film showings, communal postering, letter-writing events to local government officials opposing the military support to the fascist US-Marcos government or other activities aimed to be held before, on or after the 26th of April and in line with the targets of both FFPS campaigns.
Please make sure to let us know of your planned actions, to ensure global coordination. Also make sure to document your actions through pictures and videos, preferably non-blurred / creative shots, and send them to us for compiling them into a recap video.
Suggestion for calls:
“Support genuine democracy, support the NDF!”
“Support the Philippine revolution for a just and lasting peace!”
“Long live the NDFP!”
“Long live the militant anti-imperialist struggle of the Filipino people!”
“US out of the Philippines!”
“Resist NATO, support liberation!”
“Support the Filipino people’s aspiration for a just and lasting peace in the Philippines!”
“Ignite and spread the flames of solidarity for the Philippine revolution across the world!”
