On July 16, we will be on the eve of a crucial court decision: the one of the Paris Court of Appeal, which will render its judgment regarding the release or not of Georges Abdallah, a Lebanese communist activist detained in France for over 40 years.
Let’s break the French State’s relentless persecution against Georges Abdallah! Everyone let’s mobilize on 16th of July for his release!
In this new chapter of the “Abdallah case”, since a new request for conditional release was submitted by our comrade, what happened already two years ago, it was proven once again that the French State is determined to prevent Georges Abdallah’s release. The decision of the Paris Court of Appeal was postponed twice, on February 20th and June 19th – that’s the evidence for the most stubborn – which is now expected to be rendered on 17th of July.
Of course, officially and formally, our comrade’s release obtained in the first instance on 15th of November, 2024, is not being questioned. But in fact, as it has been the case throughout these decades of “judicial tricks,” the latter is being conditioned once again in every hearing, due to the new offensives by the prosecutor’s office, which is dependent to the power and claims of U.S. civil parties.
These “petty legal maneuvers” are actually a sign of the relentless persecution by the State and its repressive apparatus to not release the combatant of the Palestinian cause. Because he dared to claim the acts of resistance carried out by his organization, the LARF [Translator’s note: Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Factions], to strike here in France against agents of the Zionist entity and its U.S. masters, before a justice system sub-ordered to the State. Since then, he has always refused to bend and still refuses today to renounce his convictions and his struggle. Through its relentless persecution, with this clearly political detention, one of the longest ongoing in Europe, the French State clearly demonstrates its determination to not release an historical resistance fighter of the Palestinian cause, who has become a symbol of resistance. And thus the French State indicates that it defends its interests as an imperialist power in the Middle East, alongside the Zionist entity.
Due to his ideals and his struggle that Georges Abdallah is kept in prison. But it is also his unwavering convictions as a communist activist that keep him behind the walls and barbed wire where the State would like to see him to capitulate or to disappear. And due to our equally unwavering convictions to stand alongside the just and fair combat of the Palestinian people, their heroic resistance in all its forms and factions, and the resistance of all the peoples in this region, that calls us to free one of the historical combatants of this glorious cause from the enemy’s jails. Also for us it is clear: the struggle for his release is a long-term fight. But our practice demonstrates, that the balance of power changes. Our mobilization continues to grow, intensify and harden, and our determination to not give up confronts the French State year by year, month by month, and day by day by and is part of the pressure necessary to break the last lock of this entire life sentence. Victory or victory!
The oncoming 16th of July is the next step in this showdown: let us once again be massively present and rally everywhere in France and internationally on the eve of the Court of Appeal’s decision, to demand from the French State the release of this “inconvenient prisoner,” because on 17th fo July, Georges Abdallah must be freed!
In Paris the rally will take place on, Place du Châtelet at 18:30 to demand his immediate and unconditional release.
Let us be on the offensive to counter the attacks of the reactionary power! Let us continue the combat until his release!
