Goons of ‘Invasão Zero’ Gang Murder Two Young Pataxó Peasants
Two young Pataxó peasants were murdered by goons at the service of the latifundium during an invasion of the Indigenous Land Barra Velha do Monte Pascoal. As A Nova Democracia denounces, Gildo, 24 years old, and Itarauí, 27 years old, were cruelly murdered by shots while the reactionary invasion took place. Their bodies were found at the margin of a road close to the jungle.
This invasion happened just a few days after a big mobilization to demand the liberation of the imprisoned indigenous pleader Suruí. On that mobilization the demonstrators occupied more than 40 hours the BR-101 in Itamaraju. Using human chains and burning barricades the Pataxó people held up the blockade. A non indigenous woman tried to run down in a vehicle women and children. One part of the indigenous self-defense pulled out this woman in a controlled manner out of the truck meanwhile the others protested against this act of cruel intention and destroyed the truck.
As a response of the murder, the Pataxó people are organizing a new occupation of the BR-101, as they did previously. This road is an important route on which the ruling classes transport the robbed natural resources of the Bahia State. The struggle for land in Brazil continues sharpening.
That is not a singular case, the leader Nega Pataxó was murdered last year, also by ‘Invasão Zero’. In 2023, in the north of Brazil in the State of Bahia, a group of goons murdered in cold blood the leader of the Quilombola peasante, Mãe Bernadete, at her own home.
There are also other goon gangs that work in the country at the service of the latifundium. We have previously denounced new threatening to the area Gedeon Duque. A gang of goons led by Gesulino Travige Castro tried to intimidate the peasants with arms, but the self-defense of the poor peasants repelled it and avoided victims. In this attack, the military police also protected the goons.
