Brazil – AND: More organizations denounce the Operation of BOPE in the Area Valdiro Chagas, in Rondonia

The CPT- Pastoral Commission of Land joins other entities as the Abrapo in the denouncing of this months operation of BOPE in Rondonia, as AND is sharing in a Note.

The Pastoral Commission of Land of Rondonia, shared a note in which they are denouncing the military action of the BOPE (Special Operations Battalion) against the Valdiro Chagas Area, that is being organized by the League of the Poor Peasants.

On the 8th of August the Military Police invaded with troops and helicopters the area. “(…)they came at dawn, shooting from above, and then the trucks came(…)” as a peasant told to a Abrapo lawyer. The police was even shooting at children and burned the peasants’ belongings. In the end one peasant got wounded by a shot and other murdered.

The Valdiro Chagas is a “historic occupation that is located in the old Jatobá Farm”, there the violence on the countryside stays very common, what derives from structural matters and the historical Massacre of Corumbiara.

The Note also denounces the murder of a peasant by the State and the lack of legal basis for the operation of BOPE.
