We hereby share an unofficial translation of the Mexico part of the latest Weekly Newsletter published by Sol Rojo.
This 15th of December democratic teachers of Section VII of the National Coordinating Committee Education (CNTE) workers held a mobilization in Tuxtla Gutiérrez. Chiapas commemorating the 46th anniversary of the founding of the CNTE which occurred precisely in this territory on December 17 and 18, 1979. This mobilization has been important because since enables a more focused stand of the national teaching profession, reinforcing the demand for the repeal of the so-called “educational reform” of EPN-AMLO; the repeal of the 2007 reform to the ISSSTE law; the defense of the right retirement and pensions for education workers and against UMAS and AFORES system; ratifying the 22 Guiding Principles of the movement teachers for the democratization of the country, of public education and of SNTE.
In its statement, the CNTE reiterated: “If there is no solution, their ball won’t roll!” alluding to the FIFA World Cup. 2026 and the call to boycott it. In the framework of the 46th anniversary of the CNTE are scheduled other activities across the country, such as the Talk organized this same December 15th by Section XIV of Guerrero; the march representative and Forum of December 18th in charge of Section XXII of Oaxaca; among others.
Additionally the comrades from the Federation of Socialist Peasant Students of Mexico (FECSM) marched this Friday in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, and blocked the Highway del Sol for several hours. commemorating the 14th anniversary of the murder of Jorge Alexis Herrera Pino and Gabriel Echeverria de Jesús, both students of the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers’ College, who were murdered by federal and State police in the midst of a violent eviction. The FECSM took the opportunity to recall the various affronts against the Ayotzinapa Normal School and against all rural teachers’ schools in the country, calling on the government of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to address the demands of the teachers’ movement and the parents of the 43.
