DVD: War Crimes Against Venezuela, Maduro kidnapped – Update

We hereby share an unofficial translation of an article by Dem Volke Dienen from Germany.

US imperialism has escalated its malignant, unjustified, and illegal aggression against the sovereign State of Venezuela through a massive bombardment using 150 aircraft and helicopters and kidnapping of the head of State. US President Trump is reported to have personally ordered the attacks on targets within Venezuela, including civilian and military installations.

In the Venezuelan capital Caracas, at least seven explosions and low-flying aircraft were heard on Saturday, January 3, at around 2 am local time.

The new attacks occurred after months of military build-up and aggression by the US in the region, with the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and numerous other warships stationed in the Caribbean. In recent weeks, the US has seized two oil tankers off the coast of Venezuela, carried out murderous attacks on over 30 civilian boats, and bombed a port facility. Each of these actions constitutes a blatant breach of international and national law, as do the bombings that have just taken place.

The crimes committed by the Yankees against another sovereign State – whether it be Venezuela, Iran, or any other State – must be condemned in the strongest possible terms, and even representatives of the ruling US financial capital are skeptical of the unprecedented breach of international and war law.

Shortly after the US launched the attacks on Venezuela, “democratic” Senator Ruben Gallego wrote: “This war is illegal.” Republican Senator Mike Lee also expressed his disapproval (indirectly): “I’m looking forward to learning what constitutional justification there is for this action without a declaration of war or authorization for the use of military force, if there is any.”

María Corina Machado, the “opposition leader” who has been courted by German imperialism and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, recently stated that she “absolutely” supports the Yankees’ strategy against Venezuela. “We, the Venezuelan people, are very grateful to him and his government, because I believe he is a champion of freedom in this hemisphere,” Machado said. This shows how German imperialism is also complicit in the terror against the Venezuelan people.

The following targets are reported to have been bombed in Venezuela overnight:

Fort Tiuna – the main military base in Caracas

La Carlota – the main air force base in Caracas

El Volcán – signal antenna

The port of La Guaira – a seaport on the Caribbean coast

A Delta Force special unit of the US military is reported to have worked with the FBI to kidnap the Venezuelan head of State and his wife, Cilia Flores, and taken them to a US warship. Maduro and his wife are to be taken to New York, where they will be put on trial, in order to create at least a semblance of legitimacy.

All of this appears to be a repeat of the Manuel Noriega case. According to US President Trump, Maduro will not be succeeded by anyone from his regime. Trump stated that he will not allow anyone to continue where Maduro left off.

María Corina Machado is not calling for the foreign power that kidnapped the head of State to be held accountable or for compensation for the suffering and damage caused, but rather for the opposition politician Edmundo González Urrutia to be installed as successor. Machado is thus playing the role of lending apparent “democratic” legitimacy to US aggression against Venezuela in the eyes of the world. In the face of death and destruction in her homeland, this miserable existence actually speaks of the “time of freedom” for Venezuela.

The EU, through its German head, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, stated that it would support a “peaceful, democratic transition.” This is a cynical formulation of the interests of German imperialism and the EU dominated by it.

Communists, revolutionaries, anti-imperialists, genuine democrats, and simply decent people around the world will unite with the Venezuelan people against Yankee aggression under the slogan “Yankees Go Home!”

Meanwhile, it is unclear how the situation in Venezuela will develop further. The Maduro government appears to still have some control, but further US aggression is not excluded. Trump himself has announced a “second, much larger wave” of attacks in Venezuela. According to Trump, the criminal military actions of the Yankees will continue “until our demands are fully met.”

US imperialism is counting on this form of special operation, in the hope that its henchmen in Venezuela will take power, because the Yankees cannot win a full-scale war against Venezuela. The weakness of imperialism and the strength of the people are demonstrated daily in Ukraine, almost four years on. This is well aware to US strategists.

Furthermore, even after the crimes against Venezuela, the new US National Security Strategy, which is a “Monroe Doctrine with a Trump corollary,” has not been fulfilled – an absolute US hegemony over both Americas, free from any imperialist competitors. There are also brazen threats against the sovereign State of Iran. The Yankees’ aggression in West Asia will certainly continue.
