Bangladesh: RSU Condemns and Protests Against Operation Kagar
We hereby share a statement issued by Revolutionary Student Unity (RSU) against Operation Kagaar.
Revolutionary Student Unity condemns and protests against state violence and genocide carried out in the name of “Operation Kagar” against indigenous communities and Maoists in central India, including Chhattisgarh
Revolutionary Student Unity strongly condemns and protests the ongoing extermination of indigenous peoples being carried out in the name of “Operation Kagar” in central India— particularly in the Dandakaranya region of Chhattisgarh, as well as in Jharkhand and Odisha. Although this special military operation, launched in January 2024, is being conducted under the pretexts of so-called “national security” and “counter-terrorism”; it is in reality a conspiracy to make India “Naxal-free” or free of the Maoist movement. This operation constitutes a planned war aimed at uprooting the very struggle of indigenous peoples for survival. Over the past one and a half years, a large number of indigenous people have been extrajudicially killed in the name of this operation. In addition, thousands of innocent people have been imprisoned, and village after village has been burned to the ground. The core objective of this violence is to evict indigenous communities from their land, forests, and water resources, and to hand over the mineral wealth of these areas to corporate exploiters. Here, the Indian state apparatus has emerged not as a protector of the people, but as a guardian of exploitative corporate interests.
As part of this continuing operation, 14 people were killed in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on 3 January 2026. More recently, on 17 January, two people were killed in Bijapur district under the pretext of a search operation. Revolutionary Student Unity believes that no state can carry out such barbaric military operations against its own marginalized communities and dissenting political groups. Responding to the call for international solidarity, we declare our firm position against this state terror and express solidarity with the following demands:
1. All military operations and violence in indigenous-inhabited regions, including “Operation Kagar,” must be stopped immediately.
2. Military camps must be withdrawn from indigenous lands, and settlements and forest areas must be immediately demilitarized.
3. The seizure of indigenous land in the interest of corporate profits must cease, and indigenous peoples’ constitutional and customary rights must be restored.
4. An impartial international investigation must be ensured into all extrajudicial killings and human rights violations committed in the name of Operation Kagar.
Revolutionary Student Unity calls upon democratic students and people, as well as progressive forces across the world, to raise their voices in support of this just struggle of India’s marginalized indigenous peoples. Build international solidarity against Indian expansionism and all forms of imperialism and corporate exploitation.
