Norway – Kampkomiteen: Take to the Streets 8th of March!

We hereby share an unofficial translation of the call for the 8th of March in Norway issued by Kampkomiteen in Norway.

Kampkomiteen calls for powerful demonstrations against imperialism and patriarchy on March 8.

Workers and oppressed people of all countries, unite!

Take to the Streets on March 8!
Fight against imperialism and patriarchy!

Kampkomiteen calls on all our members, friends, and allies to unite on March 8 to mark the International Working Women’s Day of Struggle with powerful activities against imperialism and patriarchy.

In the current situation, the Kampkomiteen will particularly raise the struggle against the wars of aggression of US imperialism, in support and defense of the Palestinian people, the people of Venezuela and Iran, and our Indian comrades.

Kampkomiteen also raises the struggle against attacks on working women’s economic and political rights, and resistance to the reactionary ideological offensive against women that is developing within the culture of an imperialist system in decay and decomposition.

Against imperialism and patriarchy

Imperialism, the economic and political system that rules the world today, is shaking with constant tremors. The imperialist powers, mainly US imperialism, are shifting the burdens of their own crises and their own rivalries onto the oppressed and exploited peoples of the world. The imperialists are waging wars of aggression against Palestine, Venezuela, Iran, Sudan, and other countries. They are waging modern colonial wars in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

The world’s poorest people pay the price and bear the burden of the imperialists’ crises and wars. Within this system, working women and peasant women in the oppressed countries are triply oppressed. They are oppressed by the imperialist powers, by the local capitalists and landowners, and by the patriarchy that continues to keep women down as a subordinate sex.

Imperialism has taken over the millennia-old oppression of women—patriarchy—and made this oppression part of the system. The ruling classes profit from this oppression, which increases their profits. Women are denied property, equal pay, and basic freedoms and rights. Women are subjected to violence and sexualized oppression. Women’s and children’s bodies are sold as commodities in the so-called “sex industry,” for pornography, prostitution, and “sex tourism.” Patriarchy must be destroyed, and it can only be destroyed in the same process that sweeps imperialism from the face of the earth.

The Action Committee calls on everyone to mark this International Working Women’s Day by fighting against imperialism and patriarchy, against male chauvinism and violence against women, against prostitution, and for the social and economic rights of working women.

The situation and our tasks

In the current situation, we emphasize that the genocide in Palestine is not over. The Zionists continue to attack the Palestinian people, despite ceasefire agreements and diplomatic processes. Gaza lies in ruins, and in the West Bank the situation is more serious than it has been in decades. Under the cover of other news dominating the media, the lackey of US imperialism, the Zionist state of Israel, continues to expel and murder Palestinians.

In the current situation, the world is marked by US imperialism’s desperate struggle to maintain its position as the world’s only hegemonic superpower. In its rivalry with Chinese social imperialism, the US is now trying to tighten its grip on Latin America. The aggression against Venezuela is an attack on oppressed peoples and nations throughout this continent. The demands to take over Greenland are part of the same strategy, in which the US wants to consolidate its domination over the entire Western Hemisphere.

In the current situation, US imperialism is threatening a new war against Iran. They are using the same recipe they used against Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, and a number of other countries. They accuse the regime of genocide, developing weapons of mass destruction, and human rights violations. The genocide in Gaza, the wars of aggression against Iraq and Afghanistan, and the human rights situation in the US’s lackeys in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, El Salvador, and so on and so forth, show that the US has never been motivated by protecting human rights. The US is the biggest perpetrator of genocide, the biggest terrorist, and the one that has used more weapons of mass destruction than anyone else. US imperialism uses its dominance over the media in the West, including the so-called “social media,” to spread its war propaganda. They try to shape public opinion in their own warlike image. All enemies of the US are labeled as a “new Hitler,” but it is US imperialism itself that promotes fascism today more than anyone else.

In the current situation, the new democratic revolution in India is under massive attack from the old Indian state, through the military extermination campaign “Operation Kagaar.” The fascist Modi government is attempting to exterminate the revolutionary movement in India. They are using genocide and displacement against India’s poorest people, the Adivasis and Dalits, in order to open India up to foreign imperialists and monopoly companies. The old Indian state uses violence against women and rape as a weapon against the people. We raise the the memory of the Indian martyrs as a banner of struggle on March 8, because their sacrifice is like a shining torch that lights the way for all oppressed peoples to follow. We support and defend our Indian comrades, who persevere, who fight, and who will ultimately prevail.

In today’s situation, women’s economic rights are under attack all over the world. The economic crises in the imperialist system have led to price increases, higher unemployment, and major cuts in welfare. In our own country, we see how attacks on welfare hit women particularly hard, for example through the closure of maternity wards and maternity clinics. Welfare professions are heavily female-dominated, and we see how employees in hospitals, daycare centers, and schools are experiencing ever-increasing pressure. The normal working day has been abolished, temporary work, overtime, and part-time work have become the norm, and sick leave is high as a result of pressure and stress. At the same time, local and state governments are announcing new cuts and more “efficiency measures.” These are attacks that are particularly directed at working women and can only be fought through struggle and organization. We raise the slogan for a class line in the women’s movement, to organize working women for struggle and resistance.

In today’s world, women’s political and social rights are under attack. Extreme sexualization and individualism are being promoted worldwide, particularly affecting working and poor women. “Tradwife” trends and cynical ‘influencers’ want to send women “back to the kitchen.” The porn and prostitution industries commodify women’s bodies and are ideologically promoted by the media, media personalities, and state-supported “NGOs.” Even women’s childhoods are sexualized in “popular culture.” The “beauty industry” cultivates the myth of innate “femininity.” All of this is part of an ideological campaign to reinforce the idea of a feminine nature, which aims to prevent women from organizing and fighting, by all means, for rights and real equality.

Anti-imperialists of all countries, unite!

The socialist labor movement has celebrated Working Women’s Day since 1910, when Klara Zetkin proposed to the Socialist International Congress that such a day should be celebrated every year throughout the world. This is not a day to “celebrate femininity.” March 8 is a day of struggle for working-class women and for all the oppressed and exploited people of the world. March 8 is a day to stand together with our sisters and comrades in oppressed countries, especially those affected by imperialist wars. It is a day to join forces with all those who rise up to fight against imperialism and patriarchy. It is a day to reject attempts to divide the women of the people and the struggle we must wage.

This year’s March 8 takes place in turbulent times, with wars and crises in all parts of the world. In this situation, the Coordinating Committee for the Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) has called for a founding congress on April 3-5, where a new international anti-imperialist organization will be established. The Action Committee wholeheartedly supports their call: Anti-imperialists of all countries, unite! The struggles of the people on all continents must be coordinated to achieve maximum strength against imperialism. Imperialism is global, and anti-imperialism must be international. The struggle of oppressed and exploited women against patriarchy is part of the anti-imperialist struggle. From the very beginning, March 8 has been a day to serve the development and strengthening of the international movement. This year’s March 8 is a day to raise the banner of the new anti-imperialist alliance, which aims to strengthen the anti-imperialist front throughout the world.

Fight violence against women! Fight imperialism and patriarchy!

USA – hands off Venezuela! USA out of Latin America!

USA – hands off Iran! USA out of the Middle East!

Down with “Operation Kagaar”! Support the people’s struggle in India!

Support the Palestinian resistance! Free Palestine!

For a class line in the women’s movement! Working women – fight and organize!

Anti-imperialists in all countries, unite! Forward with the Anti-Imperialist League!

Take to the streets on March 8!
