Mexico: Weekly Newsletter
We hereby share an unofficial translation of the part on Mexico from the latest Weekly Newsletter published by Sol Rojo Mexico, published on the 11th of May.
The old State and Yankee imperialism have many concerns in the face of the call for a boycott of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As the date approaches, the regime’s desperation is becoming more evident, and the first statements by Mario Delgado, Secretary of Public Education, reflect this, announcing that they have decided to move up the end of the school year to June 5 “due to the heat and the World Cup,” extending the vacation period by three months.
Following this, criticism of the “4T” poured in from all sides, and the woman who leads the country has already come forward several times to defend that scoundrel Mario Delgado (an enemy of the democratic teachers’ movement), juggling her words to get out of a tight spot. Just today, during her morning press conference, Sheinbaum said that “it wasn’t a whim” but rather an “agreement” with the education secretaries of each state, although some governors have distanced themselves from this “decision.”
Underlying all of this is the regime’s fear that the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE) will launch a strike in early June, thereby kicking off boycott actions against the World Cup. Surely, in her report to Donald Trump, Sheinbaum anticipated this “brilliant idea,” in which she failed to calculate all the variables of the equation, mainly for two reasons: 1) She did not take into account school communities, especially students, mothers, and fathers, who immediately protested this imposition that prioritizes the World Cup and its economic benefits over the right to education. 2) She limited her analysis solely to the CNTE’s call for action, failing to recognize the situation facing the country amid the most terrible structural crisis of bureaucratic capitalism, exacerbated by the war against the people being waged throughout the nation.
It seems that the regime fails to recognize the underlying causes behind the call for a boycott among broad sectors of the population.
Claudia Sheinbaum and her entourage—trapped in their cherry-red bubble—fail to see the pain of the searching mothers who marched on May 10 across the country and filled the streets of Mexico City, calling for a boycott of the World Cup.
Claudia Sheinbaum and her entourage—locked in their drug-deals—fail to understand the resolve of the teacher-student movement, which continues to represent the most progressive wing of the student movement in defense of public education and the future of Mexican youth, calling for a boycott of the World Cup.
Claudia Sheinbaum and her entourage—living the life of the nouveau riche—are unable to hear the legitimate demands of the indigenous peoples and peasant communities across the country who oppose dispossession, violence, and the imposition of imperialist mega-projects, calling for a boycott of the World Cup.
Claudia Sheinbaum and her entourage—completely detached and estranged from the people—fail to understand that the CNTE’s national strike is just one of the many fronts the regime will have to face in the coming weeks, and that the 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming to Mexico at a bad time for the old State and U.S. imperialism.
Boycott the 2026 FIFA World Cup!
General Strike of National Resistance, against the old State and imperialism!
