Turkey: Gazel Bulut Released
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a note published by Yeni Demokrasi on August 25.
Partizan Prisoner Gazel Bulut Has Been Released
Gazel Bulut, who was arrested in 2017 due to her journalistic activities, has been released from Kandıra No. 1 F-Type High-Security Prison.
Bulut had been arrested in 2013 on charges of “membership in and propaganda for an organization” in connection with her journalistic activities, but was acquitted at the first hearing. In 2015, she was sentenced to a total of 10 years and 10 months in prison in that case. Bulut was re-arrested in 2017 after her sentence was upheld.
Bulut’s application for parole was rejected last year on the grounds that she had been “held in an organization ward.” Bulut was released after completing her sentence.
During her time in prison, Gazel Bulut wrote two children’s books titled “Damlayan Masallar” and “Pulun Sırrı.”
