Switzerland – Yeni Demokrasi: Rally Carried Out in Zurich in Solidarity with the Indian People
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a report published by Yeni Demokrasi on October 4.
In Zurich, Switzerland, a solidarity action was held against the increasing state repression, military operations, arrests, massacres, and death sentences in India.
The International Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) declared a week of action worldwide from September 26 to October 3, with the aim of strengthening international revolutionary solidarity with the people of India.
As part of the week of action, various actions were carried out in cities across Europe by organizations affiliated with the AIL, protesting the repression and operations in India and conveying messages of solidarity with the Indian people’s struggle.
On Friday, October 2, the IDHF also supported the action organized by the AIL, IGIF, PDD, ADKM, XETA SOR, and SYKP Switzerland at Stauffacher Square in Zurich.
The event featured German-language banners bearing the AIL slogan “Long Live the People’s War in India” and the organizing organizations’ joint call: “Stop the Massacres, Arrests, and Death Penalties in India!”
“INTERNATIONALIST SOLIDARITY IS THE WEAPON OF THE PEOPLES”
In a statement read in Turkish and German, it was noted that attacks against Adivasis, poor peasants, workers, revolutionaries, democrats, and opposition groups in India continue. It was emphasized that the military operations carried out particularly in regions inhabited by Adivasis and poor peasants aim not only to suppress the revolutionary struggle but also to open up the peoples’ lands, forests, and natural resources for exploitation by mining companies, large monopolies, and imperialist capital. The statement noted that massacres, arrests, and state violence against those resisting attacks on their living spaces continue.
The statement emphasized that solidarity with the people of India is not limited to opposing state repression in India, but is also part of expanding the common struggle against imperialist-capitalist exploitation, militarism, political repression, and the plundering of the peoples’ lands and natural resources.
The statement concluded with the words: “If imperialist attacks are international, then the struggle and solidarity of the peoples must also be international.”
PROTEST AGAINST DEATH SENTENCES HANDED DOWN TO 10 REVOLUTIONARIES
A mock gallows set up at the protest site also drew attention.
During the protest, participants called for increased international solidarity with political prisoners in India and against the death sentences handed down to 10 revolutionaries.
In a speech delivered on behalf of AIL, thanks were extended to the organizations supporting the rally, and a call was made to continue international solidarity against state repression, arrests, death sentences, and massacres in India. The event concluded with the slogan “Long Live International Solidarity.”
