In Brazil the second round of the electoral farce was held on Sunday, October 25, after Bolsonaro left the first round in the lead, but without the 50% of votes necessary to assume the presidency. The provisional result now announced has Lula winning the presidency in the second round with 51,79%.

A Nova Democracia (AND) had already analyzed that in this case the result would likely be put into question by the Bolsonaros. This is currently underway, with Flávio Bolsonaro not recognizing the results and his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro calling foreign leaders to also hold off on the recognition. Notably, Trump is among the few international heads of State who has not yet acknowledged the results. A point of contention is the extension of the voting period by two hours on the request of both campaigns, due to heavy rains in some areas in the case of Bolsonaro. In the case of Lula this was based on the lack of public transport to the poll stations and areas where he had polled high, which some have called a means of selective voter suppression. The decision of the Supreme Court came after the end of the initial dead-line, causing confusion and chaotic situations in some poll stations.

Already in its lead-up, the election has been marked by covert as well as open intervention by Yankee-imperialism in favor of Bolsonaro. AND has reported on an investigation by Reuters, that revealed that US diplomats in Brazil were ordered to be treat the intervention as “official US policy.”

Bolstered by this Yankee support, Bolsonaro had called for his supporters to “observe the vote counting” outside poll stations and more. There have already been reports of violence from these groups against supporters of Lula or suspected supporters.

While the further process and plans of the camp of Bolsonaro remain to be seen, it is clear that this election only deepens the political crisis of the Brazilian State, as AND highlights. In the same manner AND has analyzed the plans of Yankee imperialism to impose its interests in either case, and have clearly demonstrated that the electoral farce is not bringing solutions to any of the problems of the Brazilian people.
