Students from the Mangue Vermelho Collective carried out a propaganda intervention, for the Agrarian Revolution and the reintegration of property for the occupants of Barro Branco, Pernambuco, during an event at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) on the 5th of May.
The event had as a guest the Supreme Federal Court Minister Flávio Dino, who was receiving the “Honoris Causa” title from the institution. A large mobilization of students and education workers had already prevented the same event to take place a month earlier.
On this occasion, the students intervened with a large red banner bearing the slogan: “Long Live the Agrarian Revolution. Death to Latifundium. Mangue Vermelho Collective.” They also carried two signs that said: “Condemnation now for Guilherme Maranhão, justice for Ana Cecília” and “All the land for the people of Barro Branco now!”.
Quickly, the students were surrounded by external security, civil police, and government security agents. However, this did not stop the protest from taking place. The students shouted slogans such as: “The land for those who work and live on it, now and for the Agrarian Revolution” and “Conquer the land, destroy the latifundium.”
