Turkey: The Release of the Imprisoned Partizan Gazel Bulut was Blocked

Yeni Demokrasi has recently reported on the case of the imprisoned Partizan, Gazel Bulut, whose probation was denied by the prison authorities.

She was arrested on July 2013 and accused of being part of a “terrorist organization” and of doing “propaganda for a terrorist organization”. But as Yeni Demokrasi reports, she only participated in democratic protests and was released at the first hearing, at the beginning of the trial. At the end of the process, the court sentenced her to 10 years and 10 months of imprisonment.

After an appeal, her sentence was reduced to less than one year. Bulut applied for probation, but the prison authorities required from her a “statement declaring that she left her organization and that she fulfills the conditions to apply for a probation”. She stood firmly and rejected to make such a statement.
